A very real, hilarious movie that hits close to home for anyone living in one... (by mattsweeney1) |
If you're looking for a goofy comedy like Pineapple Express or The 40 Year Old Virgin, then you may be thrown off with this film. This Is 40 is a much more mature, emotional, yet still continuously hilarious film. If you are a fan of Knocked Up and Funny People and enjoy very real life movies and situations that Apatow famously brought to the screen, then you will love This Is 40. The cast and music is also top notch as usual with any Apatow film along with the cinematography which is as real as the writing an acting...no distracting over cinematic effects, just very real and raw.Go see it <more> |
Funnier Than Knocked Up (by drpakmanrains) |
I and my lady friend are in our 70's, and still find the raunchiness of today's comedies, especially the language, a bit too much, but I have to admit, this Apatow movie made us laugh consistently, as did the audience at the theater we attended. The film seemed to have more in common with "I Love You, Man" than "Knocked Up". Paul Rudd and Jason Segel play similar characters to those they played in "Love You...". As reviewers stated, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann play the characters they played in "Knocked Up", now reaching the age of 40, with two <more> |
Cute and Fun (by melitia1) |
For god's sake people.... bitch, bitch, bitch. Let's see you make a movie..... I'm sure it would suck horribly.I give "This is 40" a 10 simply because I would watch it again.Anything featuring Paul Rudd and/or Leslie Mann is great. LOVED the soundtrack and all the cool little music cameos, especially the baby girl wearing the WEEN t-shirt. The Frank Black references are awesome. I guess the average person wouldn't appreciate these type of tasty little tidbits because they probably listen to crappy Top 40 music and have no idea about indie music. And I don't think <more> |
A quality comedy which is rare to find these days (by griaustiniss) |
Wasn't expecting much before watching the movie, but was pleasantly surprised. Firstly and most importantly the comedy was not lame. The jokes were down to earth, made sense and made me laugh sincerely. This rarely happens with all those stupid comedies nowadays. Secondly - the topic and the storyline was so relevant in regards to relationships and families of our society. Though it is a comedy genre - but underneath that you can fell that the problems and situations that are being touched are important and worth thinking about. The performances by Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann and Maude Apatow <more> |
Great movie! Very misleading trailers and marketing though... (by bopdog) |
I went to this out of cinema desperation- had seen everything else. Based on the trailers and marketing I had seen, I expected a really dreary series of hopelessly frustrating "loser" situations- with men versus women venom dripping from every clichéd set-up.WRONG- I was pleasantly surprised to find I really enjoyed it. The trailers, it turns out, were grossly wrong, grossly misleading. Partly because of seeing director Judd Apatow on Craig Fegrguson the other night, and thinking he appeared kindly, intelligent, and funny, and partly due to a few good reviews, I chanced it. I am so <more> |
Great Movie About Funny People Dealing WIth Life's Serious Things (by Superrrguy) |
I've read the other reviews. Yes there are fart jokes and too many Apple products. Yes, the the people are arrogant and self centered and broken. Yes, Judd Apatow put his entire family in yet another movie. Yes, there is not plot and the story is kind of depressing and all over the place and there really isn't much reason to show Debbie's shop except to show Megan Fox in a bra... but if you like crude humor, this movie is exceptional at it.I have not laughed so much and so hard in a long time. This is a great movie about funny people dealing with life's serious things with <more> |
No plot--but very funny consistently: "humor porn" (by jimojimo) |
First off--this is well worth seeing, it is consistently funny--and at times keel-over funny. However if you're looking for a meaningful plot that gets neatly wrapped up, that's not gonna happen. Like porn, the plot was just there as an excuse for the many 'money shots'--the consistently funny gags about typical 40ish couple's lives.Rudd's character is suffering a struggling business and also maybe a little of 'struggling business'--if you know what I mean . Mann's character has a business also, that is suffering. Their kids are dealing with various <more> |
Apatowian genius (by LeoReich1) |
Judd Apatow is undoubtedly directly at the centre of the USA's comedy universe. Discovering and nurturing stars such as Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Jonah Hill, and with movies like Superbad, Bridesmaids and Anchorman to his name, Apatow has earned the power to make movies about anything he wants, starring whoever he wants. And so we have This is 40, the fourth film that he has written, directed and produced after The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and the far weaker Funny People . Starring his wife, Leslie Mann and two kids, Maude and Iris, and filmed on the Apatow's street, this is <more> |
just live happily as you are (by JankiSharma) |
This is 40 directed and produced by Judd Apatow is funny, crude, hilarious and realistic.
