Amazing presentation n great script (by scorpiosunil14) |
This is a very dark movie...it explores different facets of what goes into a persons mind when its very difficult to let go a person who was near n dear to us.The best part was the climax where the two characters blend together into one similar situation to achieve one goal of letting go of the person who was so loving and in a very unique way proclaiming their death. The script is very strong and amazingly presented by the director. Kudos to the protagonist as well who has put so much soul into this character.****This movie is not for a person who wants the movie to be fast paced or for <more> |
If you read a bad review than whoever wrote that review doesn't see the full meaning... (by mandalynn-access) |
I gave it a 10/10 because this movie did for me everything that I look for in a movie; it was captivating, emotional, mysterious and deep! The 2 main actresses were a perfect fit! They added beauty and real true character that I personally cannot see any other actresses that pop into my head doing such a role so perfectly! If you can relate to this movie then it really gives you feelings and something to think about, unlike a lot of movies these days that just end and leave you saying "was that really IT?!" This one left me with lots of imagination and even closure which is <more> |
Haunting, beautiful, believable... (by wildsparrow16) |
I LOVE this movie. This is a beautiful movie about grief, coping and realizing that somewhere, there is someone that will understand your pain. The beautiful Ms. Biel plays a vulnerable, ethereal woman - a ringer for the younger woman's dead mother. The stepmother - while annoying - means well and tries desperately to "bond" with the young girl. Coming from experience with a stepmother, I realize this does not always go as planned. Emanuele plays a deeply troubled and complex character whose world is brightened by a lonely boy she meets. The father is a loving man, but still <more> |
Deep movie about loss and belonging. (by kdcalderon-f) |
This was an incredibly deep movie about loss and belonging. This film is presented in a very intelligent, original way and even though the acting may seem awkward at times, it hits the mark with the overall feeling of uncertainty and UN-belonging. It may be a bit slow, but what is expressed and observed non verbally throughout the movie creates that churning in your stomach, that ache that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It makes you wonder. This movie is very simple, but emotionally goes beyond and is captivating. Both Jessica Biel and Kaya Scodelario played their parts perfectly. If you <more> |
A surprising film (by tomeitoe) |
After reading the critic reviews for this film, I was not expecting much at all. However I decided to give it a watch in my spare time and it was definitely worth it. Kaya whom I have adored ever since skins although sticking to the "troubled teen" stereotype she is often cast in, delivered a believable and well rounded performance. The script came together very well, and the story arcs in a way which I did not expect, and the film is then carried through by strong acting performances from both Kaya and Jessica, allowing the viewer to really witness and experience the emotions of <more> |
Creepy yet poetic ! (by Zulfmanauthor) |
'The truth about Emanuel' is an engrossing movie which is punctuated by two great lead performances. Both Jessica and Kara have a real on screen chemistry as their relationship is one of the most powerful you have seen, and their characters of 'Linda' and 'Emmanuel' respectively also have mystery. The film primarily deals with the emotions of loss and grief as well as entering into a world where reality is not how it appears. The film is not well known but this movie is quality all the way, keeping the viewer on the edge as the 'truth' becomes more and more <more> |
What an Oscar film centered on a teen girl should be (by in1984) |
8 of 10. Truly a film that can be considered art, telling a bizarre story of how a teen girl deals with more typical, everyday parents, neighbors, boys, and a psycho. It manages to do this while still keeping it sexy and mysterious all the way to the end.Maybe it deserves a higher score, but there are some character incongruities and other annoyances that might not be noticed by the target audience, but get in the way of us non-teen girls with functioning attention spans.Nonetheless, the combination of the story, settings, colors, clothes, music, and synergy among an odd assortment of actors <more> |
beautiful and simple but intelligent film. (by donnie-baybie) |
On reading the reviews for this film, I was expecting a slow paced and emotionally confusing story, but having watched this film I feel it has gone hideously unappreciated. The beginning is a little slow, and it's hard to connect to the characters initially, but the bond created between the teenager and woman is both unique and thought provoking. This film has lovely dynamics, and deals with the issues of loss and emotional wellbeing in a very poetic and intricate manner that cannot go unappreciated. I addition to these points, the music is also very well suited. All in all, this story is <more> |
Beautiful film about death and loss (by Darkdemonqueen) |
I loved this movie! It's beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and has a complex and existential meaning throughout. This movie is about death, loss, letting go and the uniqueness of a mothers love. Its about an odd teenage girl. You immediately get the sense that something is off, as she's narrating to you that she feels as though she's killed her mother during birth. It immediately strikes a deep level of sadness within you to imagine growing up without a mother....without her touch, without her holding you as a baby and singing to you, holding to her to her breast and making you <more> |
