Excellent , The Sweeney is A Fantastic Film (by abdelgulabkhan) |
I watched The Sweeney with low expectations, my girlfriend did not want to watch it, it was also in an orange mobile advert we had seen 20 times and was annoying us. It was a British film set in LondonThe odds were clearly against this film being good. But i can tell you this film is Fantastic. It was great acting, fast action, and keeps you glued to the screen.A very enjoyable film, great car chases, even my girlfriend really enjoyed in fact the cinema was packed full and everyone came out really happy and were full of praise.Everything about this film worked well, you take it for what it is <more> |
Great action film of the old style (by robert-1589) |
I loved this film. I was a fan of The Sweeney on TV but realised this would not just be a remake, and I like Ray Winstone's work too, so all in all I was keen to see this. I certainly wasn't disappointed, and nor was my other half who originally took some persuading to go along but told me after that she hadn't expected it to be near so good. The fact she turned to me and said "And breathe" at the end of it gives some indication of how involving this film was and how breathless it left us. If you like plenty of special effects and slow motion kung fu fighting, then <more> |

An exciting film! (by gvak) |
An excellent, thought provoking and totally entertaining film. Forget the TV series the nearest to that is the characters names, no more, no less. The character of Regan was described as obsolete - the scriptwriter should have added 'along with the Judges' Rules, now follow PACE' for some accuracy. Winstone and Drew portrayed a loyal pair, the acting as one would expect was good, but I found Drew an irritant to be honest. Two small things that did not mar my thorough enjoyment of the portrayal of two iconic characters. Some rather less than veiled references to the TV series were <more> |
Top Brit film (by scoob1973) |
So the Sweeney ! Based on the iconic 70's TV series Thaw/ waterman showed the way , Winston/drew have carried the mantle of hard as nails cops that will do almost anything to put the bad guys away . In my humble option the way the Winstone comes across as Regan I think the writers of the TV show would have approved hard as nails & doing what ever is necessary to put the bad guys away . The acting is spot on and the action scenes are fast paced , yes it's violent in places but its a 18 cert movie so that should be expected . Now don't get me wrong this is no masterpiece , <more> |
Ignore The Plot Holes . This Is Commercial Entertainment (by Theo Robertson) |
Nick Love is a man with a lot of baggage . His OUTLAW DVD commentary with Danny Dyer has passed in to legend and that's not meant as a compliment . In short if Love made something of the standard of GONE WITH THE WIND or CITIZEN KANE the critics would still hate him and his movies. Of course there's very little danger of Nick Love ever making a movie masterpiece , he's not Godard or Wyler or Welles or even Danny Boyle but as someone who makes movies for British lads he's more than competent . Indeed there's a bizarre irony that this might qualify him as an autuer of sorts <more> |
Makes a good action movie (by amalank) |
This is a movie adaptation of the popular 1970s British television show only the setting is in modern day and with Ray Winstone and Ben Drew playing the respective roles played by John Thaw and Dennis Waterman in the original series.Alone it makes a good action movie with one or two good car chases and gunfights. The storyline was reasonable even though its the sort you would see in an episode of the original series. Although Ray Winstone does well for himself, his interpretation of Jack Regan is different to how John Thaw portrayed the character if it doesn't lack any background. The <more> |
Get your trousers on you're nicked (by derek-eynon) |
For U.S. readers, title is Regan quote from TV series, re used in movie I am the hugest fan of the TV Series, I must have seen every episode 20 times. I watch anything Thaw is in and anything Waterman is in, well almost. This movie is a re imagining in very much the same way as the Miami Vice movie was. It's big loud brutal and fast. Yes the plot is a little complicated, but it's British, we do that. Winstone as Regan is perhaps less flawed than Thaw's depiction, and George Carter is NOT George Carter, to be fair, they only used the name. Overall I thought it was excellent, the <more> |
