other reviews because they are fan-boys expecting Jackie Chan to fight in Drunken Master III or Police Story 6 or Project A III etc etc etc.10 out of 10 easily for me...and I yawned during Avatar!

middle aged spy Bob Ho. For the adults in the audience it's wonderfully nostalgic – is that baby faced marshal artist our lovable Jackie Chan/Bob Ho? Is it really 10 years since Shanghai Noon came out? What was I doing then and why am I spending my afternoons watch PG films? My nine year old daughter is, of course, oblivious to all of this. She likes seeing Hannah Montana's dad Billy Rae Cyrus on the big screen and recognizes George Lopez from commercials, though she can't yet stay up late enough to watch his TV show. Plus she gets a kick out of the smart mouthed kids giving the adults a hard time.The plot is instantly engaging to kids and adults – a secret agent awesome! who wants to retire and get married aw! to a single Mom with three bratty kids ha ha ha! . The adults identify with the parents knocking themselves out for their kids and the kids love the extreme chaos: secret agent gadgets, Russian assassins and children behaving more deviously than the agents themselves. That a formerly death defying secret agent is nearly defeated struggling to wrangle three rebellious children is funny and something any single mom could tell you all about, but then, that isn't so funny .Though her role as a single Mom is quietly heroic, as Gillian, Amber Valetta is instantly forgettable. I had to look her up to write this piece and wasn't sure who she was even with the credits in front of me. Sufficiently emaciated as required for a Hollywood actress , Valetta is a cardboard cutout put in place to deliver her lines to keep the movie going forward. It is likely that actresses are discouraged from contributing substantively to a role designed only to highlight the male star's qualities, so I have no idea if there's more to Valetta. If so, it isn't apparent in this move. The kids Madeline Carroll Farren , Will Shadley Ian and Alina Foley Nora , fare better. They are clearly having a good time undermining the parents at every turn, even when, or perhaps especially when, they're trying to help. Carrol is excellent as a young teen, desperate for guidance and rejecting it at every opportunity. The scene of Chan trying to take down the bad guys with a four year old wrapped around his leg is parenting in a nutshell.The Spy has delightfully subtle jokes throughout that entertain the grown ups without interfering in the kids' experience. The ridiculous clothes on the Russian spy, the slow motion walk as the bad guys come to town, lines like "I've got two words for you college boy, thirteen" got me laughing while my daughter paid little attention to them. The show concludes with Chan's outtakes, letting us in on the jokes that almost got away. A movie that entertains kids is good; a movie that entertains kids and adults is a gem.

fleshed out. The child actors on display here also do a fantastic job, and I see nothing but a bright future in front of them. I have never seen such true raw emotions evoked in a film before. Truly unprecedented work here. I don't intent on overselling this film, since my review is written right after watching it at an exclusive premier in Canada, but this movie is truly a gem. From the very first lines to the last, the movie never lets up and doesn't get clogged up in any flat jokes thanks to writers James Greer and Jonathan Bernstein who have previously collaborated on "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector" and "Max Keeble's Big Move" . The transitions are smooth, and the pacing is unrelenting. Never before has a family comedy been this effective. The new year has barely begun, and we've already had our first masterpiece of the new decade.

Valetta plays the sweet and naive Gillian and the the three kids are just a whole load of fun.a film should entertain and this definitely does. doubt Jackie Chan will even be considered for Oscar nomination but this ranks for me up there with Gerard butler in law abiding C and Morgan Freeman in Invictus, a refreshing comedy with no sexual overtones, no bad language, nothing unnecessary which could remotely offend.whats more we have a film with a happy ending and at times during the film brings tears to your eyes. the script and the dialogue are first class and the action scenes every bit as memorable as anything in movies such as Transformers or previous 'chinese' Jackie Chan movies.Maybe Chan is doing what George Segal should consider and adapting his acting prowess, Jackie Chan demonstrates so much acting ability in this film and full credit to him.wow, what an absolutely delightful and enjoyable, don't miss it!

because in this film they all look like real children from the hyperactive three years old, gadget curious boy to the unruly teenager girl. the girl, Faaren throwing a pillow was as natural as it was funny. her speech at the end was also excellent. The more I watch movies like 'karate kid where the a 10-year-old try behave like 30 years old, not to mention the lap dances and French kissing the more I find the kids in this movie totally refreshing and lovable. This is one of the few movies where there is no bad words, unnecessary rudeness and blood. So you don't have to hold your hands over the eyes of the kids. Even the fight scenes looked more like a comedy circus. And it teaches about friendship, politeness, respect and giving people a second chance. That's a simple idea and ends up having a stronger message than philosophical depressing drama movies like pursuit of happiness. This movie was nonstop fun and action, comedy, drama with great message that everyone of all ages will enjoy. For the critics out there can you find me another movie that packs all this? It ranks right up there with Kung Fu panda which too coincidentally had Jackie Chan albeit as an animation. It would also make a great as gift for families. I truly wish there were more films like this. Lastly I want to thank Jacky Chan. He is a great friendly guy so he is perfect for kids movies compared to say Arnold or Vin diesel. Also It was great they got Mr Sportacus Magnús Scheving. He is another amazing guy; I wish they had him in more films.

A very family friendly movie.Come with a good attitude. Enjoy the popcorn & a coke. Watch a decent flick & enjoy time with your family.

At the same time Colton one of Bob's associates at the CIA asks him to look at something that Poldark had on him that appears to encrypted, hoping he can crack it.When the children break into his home to see what they can find out about him, they find the file and download it. And when they try to open it, Poldark tracks it down and sends his people to take care of Ho. Bob manages to deal with them and then takes the children and goes on the run.

Next Door is a great family flick for those who love Jackie Chan. Give it a try. I just wish they could have been more original.
