Excellent Acting Transcends The Oxford Murders into a Thriller Worth Watching (by bobbylabonte18) |
The Oxford would be an ordinary thriller film with a seven or eight star review if it wasn't for excellent performances by John Hurt, Elijah Wood and company. This movie is the straight forward thriller with a twist of logic at the end. John Hurt plays a Math professor at Oxford University in a great late day performance when a admirer played by Elijah Wood want his tutorship. They meet over a murder and figure out this murder with a math symbol figure out and it has itself a smart twist at the end which make this thriller good enough to see in limited release, i watched it through <more> |
It is about a murder that occurs in Oxford University. (by ksm2010) |
This movie is a great movie. I like this kind of movies a lot. The things I liked about this movie are so many but three of them were the most ones. first, It was quite ambiguous at the beginning. However, with time it started to be clearer. Second, the characters were simple and the story also was not that complicated. My favorite character in the movie was the professor. Many people would think that what he did is wrong which was hiding the truth. I agree that what he did is wrong but he did it right!! Lastly, the movie was based on limited number of characters. In my opinion, that gave this <more> |
MOVIE > Harry Potter meets Da Vinci Code DVD * (by lamegabyte) |
Well, Oxford reminds me of Hoggwarts and the encrypted messages and symbols make me think to the Dan Brown. But as it deals more with logic and science, it's would be more "Angels & Demons".Actually, despite being French, i got a British chromosome for everything truly Brit rises my interest : Oxford as Cambridge has always been big names for college and one of my regrets in life is that I didn't live a college courses like this: stunning campus, prestigious history, fraternities, night of the prom! French universities lack all this! With this movie, I intended to take a <more> |
Good movie, wouldn't read the bad comments. (by jordan_008) |
Most of the comments are from those who just didn't understand. Then of course try to make themselves seem smart just because they watched it. I recommend it. Not too many movies out like this, with lots of twists in a style I can't say I've yet viewed. As far as the comment goes on how everything is old, perhaps they've never seen a movie that was made to be in older style. Clearly doesn't watch a lot of movies, nor should be posting on a site like this. They were probably baffled and tried figuring out which country had the flying cars and 2D world after seeing the <more> |
One of the best murder mysteries (by khushiitrans) |
I have never seen such an intriguing ,thought provoking and enlightening murder mystery ever. The movie is close to perfection,be it in the area of acting, direction, cinematography and the minute details and the concept.Everything related to this movie seems fresh and pure.I don want to give any spoilers or the starting plot here.but the movie is a must for every movie enthusiast. It might get a bit geeky at times, but the concepts and the movie is detailed enough to be understood properly. The actors have surpassed expectations in portraying their role and the ending comes around so smoothly and <more> |
A worth seeing mystery movie (by efewebber) |
Fresh out of the cinema I have a very good feeling about the movie. My first impression is that it is definitely worth seeing. Alex de la Iglesia the director of for instance "El Dia de la Bestia" or "La comunidad" makes this time a mystery movie following the classical parameters. A nice plot, specially for those who like mathematics or logic in general, with intricate moves and very nice dialogs by John Hurt and Eliah Wood who, by the way, looks like a pretty solid actor. I had only seen him playing Frodo and was a bit worried about him getting stuck on that <more> |
Witty, refreshing and challenging. (by opeixe) |
The Oxford Murders from Alex de La Iglesia is a refreshing appearance on international releases. The opening's most stunning speech from brilliant John Hurt "There's no truth outside of mathematics... Philosophy is dead." begins a journey with an impeccable filmography. The uninterrupted shot following the main characters on the streets of Oxford, into the bookstore, and onto the streets again to end in the crime scene was perfect, and shows off the director's film-making skills. Elijah and Leonor are both rare specimens in today's one pattern acting and appearance, <more> |
Excellent murder mystery (by The_Void) |
The Oxford Murders seems to have garnered quite a lot of hatred towards it since it's release in 2008, and to be honest I can see why. It's clear that this is not a film for everyone, but personally I liked it. The Oxford Murders is different and challenging, and while its ideas can certainly be more than a little bit pretentious at times; it kept me guessing for the duration. The film is based on a book by Guillermo Martinez; I haven't read it, but from what I understand; the movie is quite faithful to the source material. As the title suggests, the film takes place in Oxford and <more> |
