Loved, loved, looooooved it!!!!! (by rlipman-560-84242) |
All I can say is ....get ready for another "BARBRA STREISAND BLOCKBUSTER SMASH HIT!!!!! "The Guilt Trip" is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!!! You will laugh out loud, cry real tears, and just be bowled over by the AMAZING talent of Barbra Streisand, who is without a doubt, the GREATEST actress of all time! It is SO GREAT seeing her back on the big screen! She looks absolutely GORGEOUS and her chemistry with Seth Rogen is terrific, as he is GREAT as well! Barbra Streisand can say MORE with just one expression than other actors and actresses can say with a whole script! You FEEL her <more> |
fantastic movie. (by derekp19) |
I cannot understand why this movie is being so lambasted,I laughed and cried, the acting was so true to life, I saw my own mother in this and also myself, it is a rare treat to have an honest movie with real characters and a real sense of heart, Go see and ignore the bad reviews, Ms Streisand gave a very real performance and I am surprised she was not nominated for a Golden Globe, she should have been. If you pay attention you would notice the subtleties in her expressions. I can honestly say that the end had me sobbing. I never saw it coming. OK so maybe I am old fashioned but it was a real <more> |
mother & son and son & mother rediscover each other (by cekadah) |
what a fun movie/story! how anyone was bored by this movie is beyond me because i found it charming and entertaining!the characters of striesand and rogen are more than believable as mother and son. the story is cohesive throughout entirely, so the willful suspension of disbelief should not be a problem for anyone. maybe the ones that did not like the movie were actually having issues with the characters and not the story .guilt trip is a movie to smile through and chuckle at when 'life situations' crop up. this is not a nonsense belly laugh type of story. and near the ending when a <more> |
From Funny Girl to Funny Mom ! Great ! (by fernandes-willfer) |
I am not surprised that in times of easy-fast-sexy-teenagerlike comedies, some people find it hard to follow a funny plot, with dialogs and jokes that are not explicit and given on a tray to the viewers.Full of psychoanalytic jokes - as the story line itself is a big Oedipus complex, it is far from standing as a Woody Allen or Altman's kind of movie where human nature seems to be the joke itself; even so still it's a clever well written movie and the humor is subtle and keen.I enjoyed the movie from the first to the last sequence and Barbra proved, once again, not only that she is <more> |
wow! (by mattkratz) |
This is one of those movies where the two leads, who make up most of the movies, work perfectly together, and make the movie work. Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen make an outstanding team as Rogen makes a cross-country road drive to San Fransisco as he tries to promote his latest invention-a cleaning fluid made of natural ingredients-to various companies and another goal.My favorite scenes are his final "televised" pitch, the scene in the Steak Ranch in Lubbock, and the scene in CostCo. Overall, this is a throughly enjoyable movie with terrific performances and good humor.*** out of <more> |
Easy to Watch, Heart-warming Movie (by lydia-ao) |
If you love your mum and want to laugh - this was a really wonderful, heart warming movie! Firstly it was a nice change to have the main characters be a mother and a son. The unusual combo is refreshing and I think makes a interesting plot. I loved both Barbara Streisand & Seth Rogen in this! Great combo together. Both have such a great, natural that makes it easy to laugh with. Also the makers didn't over dramatize situations making them painful to watch as other comedies often do. I laughed out loud several times which is awesome. Plus it was sentimental enough to make me almost <more> |
Ignore the Commercials. See Film on it's own Merits (by Curly-4) |
The Paramount marketing department would have you think this film is a wacky laugh fest. Which is a pity, since more people would enjoy the film if their expectations were different. They go in thinking the film is one way. When in reality, it's a whole other thing. The film is much more touching, funny, and real. I cared about the two main characters, and how they interacted. I was interested in what was at stake for them. For me, the smaller moments of the film made it enjoyable. It was delightful to see Streisand and Rogen working off each other like they have known each other for <more> |
Streisand and Rogen Bring Considerable Comedy Chops to a Lightweight Road Trip Movie (by EUyeshima) |
Aside from her near-cameo appearances in two ensemble comedies, Barbra Streisand has not starred in a movie in sixteen long years, not since 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces" which she also directed. Her output as an actress has been meager since around 1980 when she started directing films, building houses and returning to the concert stage periodically, so it was with both great anticipation and some trepidation that I saw this light- hearted 2012 comedy. What a relief to find she hasn't missed a beat in her sharp comedy timing. I think she's terrific as Joyce <more> |
I think the reviewers didn't watch it all the way through (by bmh2010) |
At the beginning of the movie I would agree with some of the sentiments of the reviewers see the scathing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes , however I stuck with it and was rewarded. The second half really picks up and everything comes to frankly a touching and satisfying conclusion with great performances. Which just confirms that many reviewers must have skipped out after only watching about 30 minutes of the movie and reviewed it based on the first weakest segment. As the movie progresses the performances, the chemistry between Rogan and Streisand, the story and the comedy takes off and it <more> |
