The Funniest Movie of All Time!!!!!!!!! (by brewstersmillions) |
Absolutely hilarious!!! Why hasn't anybody seen this movie??? The Fortune is an extremely dark black black comedy about two guys attempting to murder a woman, one of whom is married to her, both of whom are having sex with her. The reason for the mayhem? She is an heiress to a fortune in feminine hygiene products that Oscar, the husband Jack Nicholson plans to inherit and split with Nicky, the lover Warren Beatty . These two guys make the 3 Stooges look like Einstein. Jack Nicholson's scene where he completely falls apart when the cops arrive is one of the funniest scenes ever <more> |
An Unsung Gem (by johnrichkus) |
A flat-out perfect classic farce. It's a blend of sophisticated and low comedy, delicious, masterful comedy acting by actors at the top of their form. The classic dialogue walks the fine line between silliness and believability extremely well. Photography, production design, costumes and score are all top-flight. The actors have a field day with these larger-than-life but universal characters – they are expert farceurs. Beatty channels Barrymore and gives one of his best performances and he is VERY handsome! Nicholson is equally good in a rare truly comic role, and Channing is just <more> |
Hilarious, underrated comedy! (by Dominique2) |
*******CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!!!**********I am more than pleased that I finally got to see "The Fortune". After learning about it through various media, I was a little nervous about what I would find. But it didn't take long before the modest chuckles turned into belly laughs, for this is one HILARIOUS movie with real life good friends Beatty and Nicholson playing so well off each other, and obviously having a hoot doing so! Beatty is the bossy "brain" of the outfit. Married, unable to divorce and - due to the M.A.N.N. act - unable to take his mistress Stockard Channing <more> |
I'm sorry gridoon didn't get the plot. I thought it was hilarious. (by stanistreet) |
Stockhard Channing must be one of the most underrated comediennes about. This is an hilarious film. gridoon, who found it disappointing, seems to base his critique on the quality of the cast; Nicholson; Beatty & Channing. His expectations were probably pitched too high - and, sure, Five Easy Pieces is amazing, and Bonnie & Clyde is a classic. But The Fortune can stand on its own. It is very funny. The pace is hectic and the storyline has resonances of "It Happened One Night". The difference being that in the "The Fortune", the heroine is kidnapped - a botched <more> |
There is no misFortune in watching this (by ep193577) |
I rank this as my alternative list of favorite 1970s movies. On this list are ten films that didn't get the critical reaction nor the box office they deserve but IMHO were alongside the true greats ofthe 70s such as The Godfather 1 and 2, Shampoo,Nashville, Taxi Driver, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Dog Day Afternoon, Jaws, The Exorcist and One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest-all blockbusters and among my favorite of the decade. My second tier list of 70s best include Smile, Citizens Band, The Day of the Locust, Law and Disorder, Our Time, The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea, The <more> |
Beatty and Nicholson make a charming team. (by Psalm52) |
Recently saw this gem and really found it a pleasant way to spend an hour and a half. Ms. Channing is fresh and funny as the off-kilter socialite mixed up with Beatty and Nicholson who make a charming team. The hi-jinks that ensue between these three characters as they try to outwit and outlast each other makes for good comedy. One of my favorite scenes is Jack seducing Ms. Channing then sneaking out the small bedroom window while Warren walks in through the front door. Jack is also subdued in his performance, although the scene on the wing of the plane suggests otherwise. Another funny sight <more> |
