Absolutely loved it!!! (by kuuk3) |
I loved this film. Original aliens, in an original location. Cast that you had no idea were going to live or not.I know many of the other reviewers didn't like the invisible alien cough 'after effects' cough , but quite frankly, we've seen every flesh type alien going. This was trying to be different and i think it worked flawlessly. What makes it better than say skyline is the fact that humans are given an unbeatable alien to begin with, but during the course of the movie, find a way to fight back. I agree that the girl at the end swimming to the bus stop was stupid. I also <more> |
Excellent Film for the Genre (by rikkto-211-634905) |
I have read all the "professional" critics' review. Dare I say that I probably watch the same amount of movies than they do, if not more. One thing I do hate about any plots is that certain scenes do not make sense. I don't see any in this film. I like it better than, except for Independence Day, or Men in Black, all the films in this genre, except for Cloverfield which I didn't like. By "this genre", I mean Skyline, Battle of L.A., and a couple of the Will Smith movies. One of the critic thumbs down was "the acting", just because they are lesser <more> |
The Darkest Hour is much better than what most make it out to be. (by ghstbstr) |
The Darkest Hour is a great movie, with a really good story.I just watched it in the theater earlier today, and now I can't wait to get it on blu ray to watch it again. I was surprised on how good it really is after reading most of the reviews. It is for that reason why I never go off of what people say about movies, because if it looks like a movie that I would like off of the previews than I will see it and I usually do like it.It is too bad that it isn't doing better in the theaters as I would love to see a sequel to this where the rest of the human race fights back since they now <more> |
Quite Refreshing ! (by dw-334-584207) |
Was really expecting very little from this movie, Kinda like the dross on Vague SciFi Channels, But What a Shock, What a nice turn on your average Alien Invasion Hollywood Blockbuster. Instead of the Billion Dollar CGI Copy & paste from transformers,blah-blah etc, We get a good story, believable characters and nice effects. Was wrapped up from start to end, Very Rare these days, as i'm over 40 so tend to fall asleep during movies!Dunno why this gets such a low score, methinks people are addicted to the mega CGI no Story type of films on offer.Really, this is well worth a watch. Gonna <more> |
Clever Idea (by Petedwall) |
This movie is a very clever story. I find it sad that narrow minded people cannot appreciate it. The average person seems to expect an alien to be a big green thing with 6 legs and an anal probe built in. The idea of a more advanced being being constructed of energy is actually very logical. If you look at life on earth, it is the more advanced beings that are made up of more energy and less matter. As a being becomes more intelligent it would not need muscle or physical strength. As we can already see from our own evolution, it is our intelligence that is really of value, we can use machines <more> |
I enjoyed the movie and will watch it again (by ajrg-17-381639) |
I missed the first 10 minutes and what I saw kept me riveted and the characters were very original and extremely Russian. I personally do not care about special effects, but I thought they were fine and heard from others the same. I was with the characters who had to make decision after decision. I enjoyed it the most of all the commercial films from Russia about super heroes like Black Lightening and Daywatch that I have seen.So I guess the first 10 minutes where you meet the characters were not good to have received bad reviews. I was at the edge of my seat and liked it much better than <more> |
A Lot Better Than The Ratings (by alex-frey-pattaya) |
I was very skeptical to spend money on a movie with a 4.9 IMDb Rating but in the end of the day I went with my guts which never let me down. I saw the trailers back in summer 2011 and was already excited. So what is the problem with this movie? Why does it have such bad reviews? The environment has a lot to with it. The movie is set in Moscow, the most actors are Russian and the 2 supposedly American girls are occasionally speaking with a British accent. This is probably a bit too much for a "patriot". The next point would be the acting, it is not that good and the special effects <more> |
Exactly what Sci-Fi fans love and film critics miss the point (by mariner1) |
In a world of mostly straight to video lower budget scifi movies or the hit and miss affairs of Sci-Fi original movies, The Darkest Hour was a real joy.The ghost-like concept of the invaders was well conceived. Adding tension in droves, much like the original alien movie, with the what you can't see lets your mind be more creative. The lack of need for constant CGI of the aliens seemed to allow more budget and creativity on the other more subtle effects, creating a much more believable world. The floor of light bulbs effects, used similarly to the motion detectors in the Aliens movie, was <more> |
I don't get why there's so much hate for this movie (by spmact) |
I don't know why critics panned this movie so much. Did they expect a different movie than what they saw? After seeing the trailer, this looked like a fun movie so I gave it a shot and was not disappointed. It was pretty much like I thought it was going to be. Sure the whole alien invaders thing has been done a lot, and this sticks to the formula to a certain extent minus the annoying deus ex machina plot device , but it was original enough to set it apart. The acting, while not Oscar worthy, was definitely fine for this genre of movie. The setting deserted Moscow after the invasion was <more> |
