Rebecca De Costa was stunning (by theangelicarosales) |
Not a bad first time effort from writer/director David Grovic, especially considering this was his first major motion picture. I really liked the neo-Film Noir vibe although the movie was so dark sometimes it was kind of hard to see what was going on in some scenes although it added to the suspense! . De Niro was enjoyable as the crime boss, a role that seemed tailor made for him. Interesting casting with John Cusack as "The Bag Man." I like seeing him step out of his usual light comic roles and playing it more straight. Perfect Crispin Glover role as the quirky desk clerk. <more> |
Great storyline, plot and execution (by photoman9991) |
I had the opportunity to see the film this weekend in LA.I really enjoyed the storyline and the film was executed well. Cusak brings another excellent performance on screen, as well as DeNiro.Newcomer to me, Rebecca De Costa, not sure if the spelling is correct, is beautiful and she plays the role flawlessly. I cant believe I never heard of her prior to this film. what's in the bag! keeps you hooked throughout the film.I loved the pulp fiction feel, sprinkled with lighter moments. It's clearly well written.Worth seeing! |
Guaranteed to be an all time classic. (by info-3268) |
I see that someone else on here posed the question as to whether this movie will become a cult classic. I don't think that there are any polemics surrounding that question. This is one of the great movies period. Admittedly it hasn't received wide acclaim yet. Some critics call it a must see, while many others have taken advantage of the fact that it only had a limited theatrical release to attack De Niro and Cusack. Sure, they may make too many films and they may like money but this movie and their performances should be judged on their merits and not by some predisposed dislike.I <more> |
Great Crime Thriller (by felisa-doris) |
The Bag Man is a dark, gritty thriller that has offbeat sensibilities that reminded me of Tarantino or the Coen Brothers. Robert De Niro plays an intellectual crime boss and it was great to see him back in a tough, wiseguy role after all the comedic "Meet the Fockers" type films he seems to be stuck in lately.John Cusack also steps outside of his usual range to play "Jack" a bad guy with a noble streak. He was surprisingly convincing as ill-tempered Jack and his performance was a reminder of his range, since like De Niro, he seems to get stuck in light comedy roles <more> |
The Bag Man (by realoption111) |
Suspenseful and enjoyable mystery! Cusack rocks! Da Costa's performance was a very pleasant surprise. I've heard that she elected to do most of the stunts herself. Pretty amazing! De Niro is, well, De Niro, a true class act. And, in his usual fashion, he was awesome and believable. I admired Crispin Glover's performance. His role as the motel clerk was really quite entertaining. The whole gist of the movie was certainly surprising at times and, in the end, well worth the "ride!" I'm a consummate moviegoer, and I do tend to take a chance with different types of movies <more> |
Engaging and interesting from beginning to end (by philipb997) |
A gem of a film with an initially basic premise that develops with intrigue from scene to scene with unusual characters being introduced throughout. John Cusack is on fine form as the titular bag man and the supporting cast, with notable turns from Dominic Purcell and Robert DeNiro the best I've seen him in years massively contribute to make this a very memorable movie. There is a fair bit of violence in this film and when shown it is done with impact and it is not of the cartoon variety or with over the top gore. The pacing and atmospheric feel of the film are highly involving and kept <more> |
Dark and Gritty (by lisbeth-ashby) |
If you like films like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs than you'll love the Bag Man. Really good neo noir film with dark humor and a gritty, hip, edgy factor. John Cusack is great as "Jack" the hit-man assigned by Robert De Niro to look after a mysterious bag with unknown contents. Most of the film takes place at a seedy motel that's the perfect setting for an offbeat crime thriller like this. Very cool, and a lot of fun. Also, look for Rebecca Da Costa the film's mysterious heroine to become a big star. She's not only stunning, but also a very good actress. As a big <more> |
Good movie, would recommend (by forbes-terence) |
It was pretty good, reminded me of a Quentin Tarantino movie with John Cusack instead of Travolta. Thought he was really believable as Jack, the bag man who gets in over his head and has to change the rules and turn the game around.Robert De Niro was great as usual, this part was totally in his wheelhouse, playing the eccentric crime boss. Oh and Rebecca Da Costa was smoking hot! But seriously, she's also a really good actress and I could see her becoming a really big star after this. And it doesn't hurt that she's hot.Maybe not an instant classic, but I'd probably recommend <more> |
Nothing's wrong with this film (by holden-james-907-478017) |
Everyone in America is so used to the ordinary that every times something stands out it is considered taboo. There's nothing wrong with this movie. Maybe it has its particular audience, but the film is competent and succeeds to entertain. I just saw it a couple of hours ago and am still under the influence. There's a specific atmosphere in this movie, so dark and interesting, the characters are weird, well-developed, there's a constant feeling of suspense, I liked it a lot.The production design and art direction are extraordinary. If you enjoy the visuals, you must see this film. <more> |
