Beautifully made movie. Almost perfect! (by ArtAesthetics) |
WOW! After a long time I saw a movie where I couldn't take my eyes or ears off a single frame. The story as such isn't anything new. Each character is something we've seen before. The magic of this movie is in the way the story is told. The dialog, the characters, the acting, the pauses, and the music all comes together in just the right amount of drama, never going overboard in this highly emotional story. It has brilliantly portrayed and written flawed characters. Ellen Page is simply phenomenal as Tallulah, a young woman living on the fringe with a golden heart but a messed up <more> |
Incredible, Heartwarming and touching (by maxjsberger) |
I have always been scarce to rate a movie 10/10. However I can not describe how truly deserved that number is. I stumbled upon this movie very casually and came out devastated, touched and changed quite honestly. Now this may seem extreme and I share the passion of mocking others that take reviews to the next level , but this movie contains everything I love about movies and does so with ease. Let me start with Ellen Page. Wow. Ellen has always performed magnificently, but this movie in my humble opinion has defined her as an actress. Allison Jenny, destroyed my heart and plunged me into the <more> |
A gem! (by Sailor-21) |
My wife and I both found this a small masterpiece. The writing is enchanting. The players are superb. Ellen Page never ceases to amaze. She is one very talented lady.Allison Jenney's work is always worth watching, never more so than in this flick.I found the Carolyn part played just a wee bit over the top.At a time when far too many movies are made for a young audience devoid of aesthetic sensibility, it's movies like this that rekindle love of film in the mature movie-goer. |
Very touching (by Red_Identity) |
I don't think the plot summary of this is anything truly original or unpredictable, but boy do the writers do it really well. They do a fine job of developing the central characters and do a good job of making us empathetic towards everyone, which is always important for a film like this. You have to find a certain balance where your characters' flaws come shining through very noticeably, but where their redeeming qualities also become more noticeable as the film goes on. In this case they do. The entire cast is quite strong, with Page, Janney, and Blanchard giving some really <more> |
Quite good! (by fil-nik09) |
I just randomly picked up to see this film. One of the reasons - not a very good one, but hey - is that the name of the film is like one of Tori Amos' songs. The song is great and so is this movie. I must say that the beginning of it was not really promising up until she came to the hotel and actually entered the room of a woman and I was wondering if I chose the right film which means interesting one which is not boring and it is entertaining . Luckily it was great. What I liked the most is a simple story somewhat great characters all three women and a 'missing son' and <more> |
Oustanding performances, interesting story (by phd_travel) |
The three leading ladies of this movie are good in their own ways. Firstly Tammy Blanchard is the Judy Davis of her generation - completely convincing as a mother who can't cope. Ellen Page is suited to her role as the vagabond title character Tallulah who takes her child. Alison Janney as Tallulah's boyfriend's mother is fascinating to watch. The story is quirky unique and involving. It's funny in pats and tense and has some insights about human relationships that haven't been shown on screen before. This is a very good indie movie and deserves some awards. |
Ellen Page is excellent as the homeless young woman who kidnaps a baby. (by TxMike) |
Much advertised and anticipated Netflix Original movie, it came available just yesterday.Set mostly in New York after she gets there, Ellen Page is Tallulah, and she usually just goes by Lu. We eventually learn that she had a difficult childhood which resulted in her not trusting others. She lives in her ratty van and cons or steals money and food to subsist. Or gets "leftovers" out of garbage cans. When her boyfriend starts talking about "love" and "marriage" and "having kids" she withdraws, tells him he can just leave if he doesn't like her <more> |
Enjoyed it a lot more than I first thought I would! (by Hellmant) |
'TALLULAH': Four Stars Out of Five A Netflix original drama flick; about a homeless girl, that kidnaps the baby of a neglectful mother, and then bonds with the mother of her ex-boyfriend, who she turns to for help. The film stars Ellen Page, Allison Janney, Tammy Blanchard and Evan Jonigkeit it also features a cameo by Zachary Quinto . The movie was written and directed by first time feature filmmaker Sian Heder a veteran writer of the popular TV series 'ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK' . A Good Movie in Search of an Ending (by comquest) |
Tallulah has a dynamite cast and is engaging throughout. That is, until the ending.Ellen Page is great as the title character and often displays the wry, endearing humor that made Juno such a memorable film. Seeing her and Allison Janney together is a real treat. Both women are wonderful actors who exhibit powerful chemistry together. The premise is interesting, too. Is Tallulah justified in taking a baby from a drunken, unwilling mom? Perhaps. Although it's still kidnapping. Then comes the ending. I was very disappointed that so many questions went unanswered. It's like they ran out of <more> |
