impressed. Josh Duhamel as usual is lovely and beautiful to watch on screen. The real scene stealer, however, is young Mimi Kirkland who plays Lexie. Her comedic timing and toothless smile added an adorable element to the film.The whole film seemed so natural that there was an obvious, stark contrast to the drama and thriller aspect in the end. When Kevin Tierney reaches Katie in Southport the tone of the film changes. You've almost forgotten that you're watching a film, but rather a real relationship be built when suddenly Tierney is there, brooding over the characters.I loved the film depiction of this novel as well as the acting of Josh, Julianne, Mimi, Cobie Smulders, and Noah Lomax. I highly recommend it and would go so far as to say it's a must see! Of course the romantic comedy fans will eat it up, but the men who are dragged along might enjoy it more than they think!

small, sleepy coastal town and a mere pit stop for bus routes all along the East Coast. It also happens to be the home of widower Alex Wheatley Josh Duhamel , who immediately feels a strong attraction to the beautiful and mysterious young woman who got off the bus and decided to hang around town for a while. As time goes by Katie's trust in Alex builds, and she starts to settle in little by little. Soon a relationship between them starts to take shape, although Katie is very hesitant and cautious at first. In return, Alex and his children have also developed a trust with Katie. But soon that trust is seemingly broken when Alex discovers that Katie is not who she appears to be. Without giving her a chance to explain her situation, he tells Katie how he feels that their trust has been broken and just how much that hurts him. Feeling like she has caused Alex and his children nothing but pain and grief Katie decides it's time to move on. But at the same time, after searching his feelings, Alex realizes that he truly loves Katie no matter what her past may be and pleads with her to stay so they can work through her problems together.Meanwhile the obsessed and enraged Kevin, who is also a detective with the Boston Police Dept. is not about to let Katie go. He tracks Katie down and finds that she is now with Alex and together with his kids they all appear to be very happy together. This is more than Kevin can bear, so in an alcohol fueled rage he attempts to set their house on fire and kill Katie because if he can't have her, no one can. As the house goes up in flames, Alex rushes in to save his daughter from the house that is now engulfed in a fiery blaze. As Alex fights to save his daughter, Katie struggles with Kevin who has a gun and is trying to shoot her. In the midst of all the drama, Alex hears the gun go off in the in the direction of where Katie and Kevin were struggling and he fears the worst has happened to Katie. But thankfully for everyone, Kevin is the one who is killed because the gun has gone off on him instead of Katie. The next day, the sun comes out and shines on them all, and they all live their lives happily ever after...or so we hope. And we are refreshed to see that love and good have once again triumphed over hate and evil, which is why many of us go to see these types of movies. This movie is a very good movie that concentrates more on drama than it does the romantic side of things. Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel have a believably good chemistry between them and are great as the lead characters, and David Lyons plays his part very well as the slime-ball husband who in the end gets what he deserves.

She resurfaces in the small, ocean side tourist town of Southport in North Carolina, which is also where the film was shot.Her small town surroundings and the people within it embrace Katie a lot sooner than she is ready to reciprocate. One such resident being Alex Josh Duhamel who is a father of two and a widower of four years loosing his wife to cancer. A very guarded Katie is constantly reminded of her runaway status from, as more of her back-story is revealed, her husband who is a Boston police detective David Lyons in charge of locating escaped criminals.With a small window of opportunity to get to know Alex and his family more, Katie decides to enter their lives as his kids start to grow more fond of her. However, when her husband's detective skills lead him directly to her, a series of events results in a new awakening for Katie and Alex's family alike where new beginnings are a welcome.The last fifteen minutes of "Safe Haven" includes a real tear-jerker and a surprise ending is revealed. I challenge anyone to have a dry eye after that. Josh Duhamel as "Alex" and Julianne Hough as "Katie" were a perfect fit and carried the storyline perfectly.Also very impressive performances came from child actors Noah Lomaz as "Josh", Alex's son, and Mimi Kirland as "Lexie", Alex's daughter...Full Review at HollywoodJunket.com -Hollywood Junket

movie to keep your attention. I would pay to go see it again, it is a def must see!!

since Hough is blond. In the book it says how when they went to the beach she didn't have a bathing suit but even if she did she wouldn't wear it which shows how she wasn't completely comfortable still. I think that Hough could've been perfect for the part if they would've matched her book character more. I still enjoyed Hough though before I read the book. Another thing is how they completely changed the story. The book is great and it seems to me that it wasn't necessary to change anything around. In the book Katie had planned her leaving for a long time before she actually did it. In the movie she stabs her husband and runs to the neighbors but that is not the case in the book. In the book she plans everything from taking little cash from her husband every time he left his wallet out, to getting a cell phone to direct the home phone calls to the cell. She thought of everything and left when her husband was gone. She did not leave in a rush like it showed in the movie. The last thing I will mention though there is many more is how he found her. The way he found her in the book was so good and they changed it to him sneaking into the neighbors house that helped her and listened to their voicemail's. In the book he was lost, he almost found her in Philadelphia but lost her and he couldn't understand why their wasn't any clues. Eventually the neighbor that Katie use to go to when her husband was gone past away and her daughter when to Katie and Kevin's house to ask if Katie would be attending the funeral services. Kevin had been lying to everyone saying that Katie was helping a sick friend out of town. Kevin and the neighbor talk for a while and he soon finds out that Katie had gone to the neighbors house many times and he also found out that the women who past away had a daughter around Katie's age that past away too and that Katie and the daughter had a striking resemblance. He pieced it together and realized what Katie did. He went to the neighbors during the funeral and found a copy of the birth certificate and the social security number of the daughter who had died. Then he found out that Katie had got a drivers license in Southport. So I'm sure you could see now how different the two stories were but since I really enjoyed it before I read the book I figured I would give it the rating I would've gave walking out of the movie theater.

course being a male, I can never tell my friends about! When you go to this movie, be prepared to be a tad bored for most of the movie, but it will all come together and provide you some great emotions as well as a fantastic ending that you may never see coming. The only reason did not give this movie a higher rating was due to the long road it takes to build the movie up for the ending.

The script, which is for the most part well-crafted and deserved credit for avoiding a number of the clichés that often taint romantic dramas, does a good job of establishing a credible cast of characters, especially Katie. Julianne Hough plays the role of the runaway woman with sincerity and passion, and her performance keeps the story grounded. Josh Duhamel is also excellent as Josh, a single father with two small children who is struggling to keep his life together in the wake of his beloved wife's death. Josh is clearly attracted to Katie from their first meeting, but Katie is reluctant to return his attentions. There is a good reason for her initial reticence, though like Josh the viewer remains in the dark early on. The truth is only slowly revealed, much of it in flashbacks from Katie's nightmares, but meanwhile the cop from the opening scene tirelessly works to pick up her trail. David Lyons is great as the crusading detective, consumed by an almost unnatural passion to find Katie and bring her in. He, too, has secrets. Going into more of the plot would be a disservice. Despite the straightforward nature of the storyline, there are a number of clever twists and it takes a while for all the characters' backstories to play out. Seeing the numerous plot threads unravel at their own pace and savoring the unexpected turns is a big part of what makes SAFE HAVEN more than your usual romance.SAFE HAVEN is a terrific date movie. It is first and foremost a love story, but the film treats the subject with more respect than your typical teenage drama. The characters are mostly adults and the themes they must wrestle with are serious ones with no easy answers. In the end, the story affirms the value of trust, home, and family, and that those things are worth fighting for even if it means facing up to your worst fear.
