Let me start off by saying: I thought PA was stupid, PA2 was too funny to be good and PA3 was actually a decent movie for the series. Also, I was at a midnight premiere with 359 other college students and I knew it would be like the audience promo's where everyone is scared and jumping. That being said, I thought this movie had a BETTER mix of horror and comedy, unlike the second one. The atmosphere of the huge audience made a big difference in my reception of the film because I became a part of them. Normally I just sit there and laugh at everyone getting scared. But I would start <more> screaming and cheering along with them this time. Plot: 5 years after the events of PA2, Katie and Hunter now Robbie? have moved across the street from a seemingly normal family and weird things start happening. Yeah, that's the plot that was given to us. This made me think, "Wow, random much?" But you can't not watch the movie because it does all make sense. Further plot details: Katie gave Hunter up for adoption who knows when? and he is adopted by the family across the street Alex's family and for 5 years, she waits for him to grow up and then moves across the street to prepare the ritual. Then, Robbie not Hunter and is most likely possessed himself introduces the ceremony and Toby to Hunter and Hunter now Wyatt begins acting weird. While all of this is happening, Alex begins to notice weird things happening since Robbie and Katie moved in. With the help of her boyfriend, they set up laptop's around the house to catch anything suspicious.Soon after, the cameras begin revealing paranormal activity see what I did there and Alex starts to worry about their safety. It all leads up to possessed Katie killing the mother and boyfriend while Alex is attacked in her house, runs across the street to find her dad who went over there for a reason i forgot and sees her dad drug away by Toby ? and later, possessed Katie appears, chases Alex out of the house. Outside, she finds an eerily creepy looking Wyatt and when she turns around, a mob of possessed women are walking towards her and then she turns around for the last time to be killed by possessed Katie. End. I found the plot to be more intriguing than the last 3 plots. Yes,it ties to 2 and 3,but the twist in the plot isn't revealed till halfway through and we have to sit around waiting for the aftermath in suspense. Very good writing and directing.Acting: Now, out of all the movies, this one had the worst acting. It wasn't bad,but it didn't par up to the other movie's acting. Alex was a decent character. But, she is blonde, so there might be some speculation that she was supposed to be a little "stupid" with the activity, but I think the character was smart, but not smart enough unlike Ali in the second one . For example, she doesn't seemed too worried until she almost dies in the garage great scene . She doesn't consider the danger until it's almost too late. Ben boyfriend was also good. Very likable character but like his girlfriend, danger is not on his priority list. He also provides GOOD comic relief, even though Toby does not like him. Parents, they were bland. In PA2, the parents had good personality. But in this one, they were kind of just there. Katie had, what, two, three lines? She was pretty useless until the very end. But her creepy, demonic state is terrifying to say the least. Lastly, the kids. Come on, they're kids. Do we really expect them to give Oscar worthy performances? I thought Robbie was extremely creepy and kind of an asshole for a kid. Wyatt was the innocent, scared kid who doesn't know what's going on now. They definitely foil each other and sometimes in a good way and sometimes in a bad way. So all in all, good acting, but not as good as it should have been.Last Thoughts: Overall, great movie for the Halloween time of year. Good plot, especially the twist. Acting not so great, but it worked for the most part. I think I got caught up in the hype of the crowd, but I still enjoyed it. Definitely better than the first 2, but not as good as 3. I give it a 10 for being entertaining, having a good plot and for tying up some loose ends. There needs to be a 5th one don't shoot me to conclude the story entirely. I mean, a Latino spin-off? Really? It seems like a waste of time when we could just finish this series.10/10 <less> |
