Ordinary Decent Show (by mickeydoyle) |
The film itself is a bit of a laugh. The part where Stevie laments over his poverty stricken child hood is hilarious. Fair enough the foreign actors such as Spacey's and Baxendale's accent are useless but sure at the end of the day its no big deal. The Gardai Siochanna are also a wild laugh with them following Spacey about through Dublin giving him plenty of stick. This film can't be taken seriously and was never intended to be. If you wanted the true story about Michael Cahill, go and watch 'the General' if you want to see a crowd of cowboys rampaging through Dublin <more> |
Has Hollywood infested the Irish filmakers? (by videooutakes) |
Ordinary Decent Criminal has just been released on video out here in the States and I was saddend to see that Hollywood's influence has sucked the orginality out of Irish filmakers. I was ready to sit down and watch one of my favorite actor's, Kevin Spacey, in this movie, when 10 mins into the film I realized I was watching a bloody remake of "The General", which starred Jon Voight and Breandon Gleeason. At first it was hard to swallow the Irish accents, but I got used to it. I stayed with the movie noticing differnt changes from the other great movie,The General, but I was <more> |
preety good movie (by dxtr2001) |
A story of a Dublin's most famous robber, maybe not excellent but pretty good. Has some minor flaws but the movie is really interesting and somewhat funny. If You liked Boondock Saints this movie is definitely for You. Kevin Spacey is as always excellent and it's fun to see one of Colin Farrell's first "big screen" appearances. |
Sexy and Lovable Crims (by helfeleather) |
This film is remarkable for its amazingly high number of sexy men. Kevin Spacey, not a bad looker per se, slips into the background when compared to his gang, which includes the impossibly spunky Colin Farrell. Even the baddies the guards and the IRA are gorgeous. But don't be fooled. It's only a film. I went to Dublin once, and most of the local blokes are pale, piggy and podgy. |
A shame this came so close after The General (by Allie-18) |
Back in 1998, John Boorman directed "The General" with Brendan Gleeson in the lead role. It told the true story of the late Dublin criminal Martin "The General" Cahill who pulled off a number of daring heists, never went out in public without covering his face with either clothing or his hand, had a bizarre menage a trois relationship with his wife and her sister, and was so clever and cunning that the police never managed to press any charges against him.In Ordinary Decent Criminal, Kevin Spacey plays Michael Lynch, a clever criminal who pulls off daring heists, never <more> |
Phlagmetic thief continually tries to outwit the coppers! (by bakooi) |
Typically English, and Spacey somehow seems to fit right in. Even behind his mask one can tell he is very pleased with himself. The movie is full of crazy ideas and every time you have to wonder how Spacey will work himself out of yet another precarious situation. The painting-robbery is simply brilliant. Well edited, with flashforwards and flashbacks which tell us a lot in just a little bit of time. Great fun, well written, amusement at its best. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less! |
It all has been done before, but it is funny and entertaining (by philip_vanderveken) |
After seeing "Ordinary Decent Criminal" I'm starting to wonder if there are still other genres of movies being made in the UK. Since their success with movies like "Snatch", "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels" and of course the best one of them all "Trainspotting", I'm getting the feeling that almost all movies coming from the UK are about criminals. I guess I can only name a couple of movies in which the emphasis lies on another subject. However, that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy them of course. Certainly when you get a nice <more> |
