Plot: Forrest Taft is an environmental agent who works for the Aegis Oil Company in Alaska. Aegis Oil's corrupt CEO, Michael Jennings, is the kind of person who doesn't care whether or not oil spills into the ocean or onto the land, just as long as it's making money for him. He even makes commercials that make him look like he cares about the environment. Jennings is almost finished with building his new state-of-the art oil rig: AEGIS-1. The problem is that if he doesn't finish building the rig in thirteen days, the land rights will be returned to the Eskimos and the Alaskan government. When Jennings finds out that Taft's best friend Hugh Palmer has a computer disk that contains information about defective equipment on AEGIS-1, he sends out his goons to murder Palmer. When Taft tries to interfere, Jennings tries to kill Taft. But an Eskimo woman named Masu, who introduces Taft to her father Silook, the chief of her tribe, rescues Taft. With Masu's help, Taft begins a trek through the Alaskan wilderness, heading straight for AEGIS-1 and to destroy it before it destroys all of the forest. Runtime: 101 mins Release Date: 17 Feb 1994
Very misunderstood Steven Seagal film: (by Movie Nuttball)
I really don't know what is so horrible about this film.As of this writing On Deadly Ground is on the IMDb bottom 100: #99 and that is just sad.On Deadly Ground is a very decent film. I admit When I first saw it when it came out I didn't appreciate it but after a recent viewing, that has changed one hundred percent! The movie has got it all!A great story, great action, and one heck of a cast!Look, you have Steven Seagal,R. Lee Ermey,Michael Caine,Joan Chen,John C. McGinley, and Billy Bob Thornton!Plus Sven-Ole Thorsen and Jules Desjarlais,Mike Starr,Nils Allen Stewart, and even Irvin <more>
Kershner!Ermey's character was neat and he acted very well!Seagal's direction is good and I loved it when he showed up for his first scene in the movie. The film is really good in My opinion and at the end when Seagal's speech came up it was really deep and seeing those real clips of animals was sad.For those who have seen it before just give this film another try and for the people who didn't see the film also see this film if you like Seagal and the above mentioned cast and action movies. I am sure you will disagree with the others and like the film like I do. I recommend it!
This movie rocked so hard I slapped my best friend. Seagal is like Jesus and Michael Caine is like a clone of Jesus. That's how perfect they are in this movie. Also be on the lookout for a cameo from Billy "From the Fat Days" Bob Thorton. He's gonna make you spit milk out of your nose he's so good. It's got enough great action to make you sleepy, but it's the message that makes it great. A heart that only Seagal I mean Jesus could bring to the table.BEST LINE!R. Lee Ermy says, "I'm gonna stick this gun up your butt and blow the top of your head <more>
off."Hopefully not till the movie's over so that I don't miss any of the movie cause I love the movie. And I love Jesus. Thanks again Steven.
When I began to watch this movie, I felt some change in it. The basic thing of this movie and which is the most important is that it gives a message to the viewer. This movie cannot be considered racist. It just discusses and emphasizes the problems of a particular area of the world due to an oil refinery. It's true that oil is today's most severe problem. It has brought people to wars and ultimately death. Now we are facing the problem of hole in ozone layer. Big industrial countries are accumulating more and more oil instead of searching for other earth-friendly resources of energy. <more>
If you want to know why all this happens and how the oil traders are earning too much money then watch this movie. This movie like many other most famous movies takes the help of story of a man Forrest. A friend of Forrest has an oil refinery which faces many technical problems and accidents. When Forrest investigates the reasons, it comes out that all these things are the parts of his friend's business tricks. That's when a war between an earth-friendly and a money-friendly begins. The speech of Forrest at the end of the movie is the most important part of the movie. So don't miss it.
What's with the bad reviews ?? I Loved It !! (by homecoming8)
I hate to see bad reviews written by people who do not like the type of Steven Seagal movies to begin with. Than just Do Not Watch Them..For fans of good action movies, this is a rather underrated movie which gets better the more times you see it. It didn't have the box-office of Seagal's most successful movie "Under Siege", but it is one of his better ones. The story is interesting because of the environment message and the fact that Taft Seagal initially works for bad guy Michael Jennings Caine . Alaska is an amazing country which is shown in beautiful images. The cast is <more>
way better than your average action flick: One of the best performances from Seagal. Joan Chen is gorgeous and her character is well written. Michael Caine really enjoys his over the top bad character with his crooked laugh. John C. McGinley Point Break, Set It Off, The Animal has some amusing dialog and quotes. R. Lee Emrey is amazing as ever Full Metal Jacket, Se7en, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 and 2005 and very fun to watch as Stone, head of the mercenary team assigned to take out Seagal. At one point Stone Emrey asks Jennings Caine : "How do you want him delivered ?" The look of Caine at that moment is unforgettable and hilarious. Just like the scene where John C. McGinley has a "chat" with the Hugh Palmer character. There is no I in Team "!! The fight sequences are short but very effective with some extreme hard action. The explosions were a thrill. There was a big budget available for this movie which really shows on screen just like Under Siege 1 and 2 . I already saw this 20 times or so but it gets better every time. For those who never saw this one, give it a try, you won't regret it.
An underrated film with an important message... (by MonteCarloMan)
On Deadly Ground is one environmentalist's attack against a bully oil corporation who puts profits in front of environmental concerns. This is the bottom line of the movie. It has it's good points as well as some weak points but I commend Seagal for putting this issue out there for all the world to see. That in and of itself should be applauded. Its unflinching and honest, especially at the end with his environmental speech with the Native Alaskans. Sure, to many it may seem over the top, but we could all learn something about the preservation of our environment from careless <more>
corporations. The film was made at the height of Steven Seagal's success in the movies. He had free reign to direct and deliver not only an action movie but to incorporate his political beliefs into it. It is, without a doubt, a movie with a chip on it's proverbial shoulder. Environmentalists will no doubt love to see Seagal kick some corporate butt, which he does a good job of... Those of you who are positively steamed with the corporate scandals of today, Enron/Worldcom to name a few, should take a look at this movie, it may just give you peace of mind. If your simply a Seagal fan like I am and you enjoyed watching this film for the action only, then I would recommend watching the following films: "Marked for Death" and "Out for Justice" two of his best!
Best Seagul movie & is misunderstood (by MacgyverColumbo)
This is my all time favorite Seagul movie.I don't really understand the bad ratings this movies awesome.I mean who can't dig the hand slap game I love it.Seagul Direted this film I always felt this is the movie Seaguls always wanted to do.I'm a American Indian & love the land & love the story of this movie.Micheal Caine is obviously not a good fighting bad guy but he's still a decent bad guy. The fact that he gets killed in the stuff he's destroying the earth with is awesome I love it. The running as the building blows up behind them is totally 90's I love it. <more>
I completely recommend this film & if you like this film then go get another Seagul movie called Fire down below.
A good effort but a think was looks a little rushed (by gr_film)
I actually kinda like this film... I mean I see the flaws and the problems with it, and there are a few things in it that irritate me terribly, but having said that I really appreciate what Mr Seagal was trying to do with this film... I think the environmental issues he is raising are very valid and important especially now in the current climate, so was this film perhaps a little ahead of the times? I get the impression that this film was a rush job in between Under Siege and Under Siege 2, if a little more time had been given to the development of the script but lets not dwell on the <more>
problems... It's very topical stuff, he has a damn good point, and Seagal at this point was at the height of his commercial Hollywood success, so he was reaching out to a massive audience, just unfortunately it rammed it down their throats, if the issues had been worked in a little more subtly then this film may have perhaps become a modern great. The opening title sequence is fantastic, incredibly well shot and Basil Poledouris' score for this was fantastic, might not have gone too well with the violent cheesy kick ass elements of the film, but mostly it was very welcome.Michael Caine, who does make an attempt with a Texas accent, really shouldn't have bothered, its Michael Caine, he was very credible and I really enjoyed his performance, only when his attempt at the accent slipped in did it detracted from the believability.Summed up, Mr Seagal, I appreciate and enjoy this film and would like to see more of these issues portrayed in films today, just with a bit of dramatic subtlety.
A great movie with an even better message (by jackal07)
Yes this is your typical 80s kick ass and take names movie filmed in 1994 ... but the message is clear and truthful.... the oil companies are way too powerful, and cars and industry CAN run on biodegradable energy sources.... does this mean we should destroy oil refineries like segal does... no.., but we need to change... OR WE WILL DIE !!! Its really that simple... the oil companies and the nra need to be stopped... at this rate, the earth may have 30 to 50 years left... and its our children and our children's children, that will suffer... if we can use electric cars, it needs to be <more>
