Yes, Yes, Yes! The Live-Action Digital 3-D Revolution Begins... (by nconstab)
My Bloody Valentine 3-D pulled out all the stops and is every bit worth the ticket price. I admit that my expectations were pretty low at first, but as a horror fan and a 3-D fan, I went to the theater anyway not trying to get my hopes up too much. From the very beginning, the story, action, and the visuals hooked me into it with lots of twists, turns, and shocks. Digital 3-D movies over the past few years have only offered family films or animation in 3-D. Finally, Live-Action Digital 3-D that WORKS!! A MUST see movie if you like blood, gore, and full nudity; all in 3-D! A few story problems <more>
in the third act but everything else makes up for it. The movie is meant to be fun anyway, and it was!Bravo to the filmmakers for making this movie entertaining and visually stunning. We are off to a great start in 3-D movies!
I loved this movie! I went into it with low expectations but with high hopes and boy did they deliver. The gore was extreme but well placed and the 3D just plain rocked. The acting was well done with great performances by both Jensen Ackles and Kerr Smith. Every twist and turn left me tense and guessing. The pace never slowed, thus keeping me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending tied up the loose ends nicely but still left room for a sequel, if the director is so inclined. The bit of a cliffhanger at the end was well done without being too melodramatic yet being complete enough <more>
to where another movie is not needed. I will definitely be seeing this again soon!
Bloody brilliant 3D experience and a pretty good movie (by springsunnywinter)
My Bloody Valentine 3D is a remake of the 1981 Canadian slasher film of the same name which I never heard of before this movie was released. The film will have a 3-D theatrical release and is the first film released in Real D which is the main reason why I intended to see this movie because I have never seen a movie in 3D before and I generally like horror movies. Ten years ago, a tragedy changed the town of Harmony forever. Tom Hanniger Jensen Ackles , an inexperienced coal miner, caused an accident in the tunnels that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden <more>
Richard John Walters , into a coma. But Harry Warden wanted revenge. Exactly one year later, on Valentine's Day, he woke up and brutally murdered twenty-two people with a pick axe before being killed. Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine's Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Jaime King , who is now married to his best friend, Axel Kerr Smith , the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony's dark past has returned. Wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pick axe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realise in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who's come back to claim them... The 3D experience was amazing and so lifelike which seems like that it is really happening. The movie was pretty good that was best viewed at the 3D theatre although it is another slasher movie which has been tackled a lot of times in Hollywood but I had no problem with it because I had a good time watching it. It is not the kind of film that is going to appeal to everyone and it is best not to take it too seriously. I would recommend it to people who liked movies like Scream. The story is simple and the cast is unknown but it is better that way because then you can just concentrate on the mystery. Overall if want a good 3D experience and/or like horror slasher film then My Bloody Valentine is the movie for you.
This film was a remake of the 1981 classic slasher flick.I went to this film on February the 13th this year. Each ticket bought for the film ensures you get 3D glasses with it to view this film in 3D.I have seen the original and this remake makes 3D movies that more special.I was too young to see Jaws 3D or Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D or Anityville 3D.The film had good special effects and a simple plot to follow. The experience of 3D in a cinema gave the film the impression that the pick axe was coming right at your face. I even tried to grab the dog in one scene at the motel and tried to <more>
dodge a bullet being fired from a gun.The basic plot is that there was a mining accident with one survivor. A few months later, night there is a party with teens in one of the old mines, and then most of them get hacked up. Ten years later, people are winding up dead, all connected with the party in the mine.Horror film buffs, especially slasher fans, old and new will appreciate this film and its take on making you feel you are part of the terror.
Who would've thought it? A VERY GOOD horror film remake! (by preppy-3)
Tom Jensen Ackles returns to his home town of Harmony ten years after a mad miner went on a massacre and killed 22 people. When he returns the murders start up again. Sheriff Axel Kerr Smith who was once his friend thinks he's doing them. Meanwhile Tom's ex Sarah Jaime King , who's now married to Axel, thinks Tom is innocent. The original "My Bloody Valentine" came out in 1981. It was a low-budget horror film that was cut to ribbons by the MPAA. Virtually all the killings were either shortened or eliminated entirely. The original director said it should have been <more>
retitled "My Bloodless Valentine" Nevertheless the film worked. I saw it opening night in 1981 and remember it scaring me silly. Now, 26 years later, we get a 3-D remake. I expected the worst but was surprised at how good it was! The story was changed and is a little needlessly convoluted and Smith is a TERRIBLE actor. But, those two things aside, this was great! The MPAA seems to be apologizing for what they did to the 1981 original. The gore in here is REAL extreme and over the top--the most I've ever seen in an R rated film. Also in 3-D it's even more explicit the 3-D works incredibly well . Two murders cut from the original film--a pickax through an eye and a woman killed in a dryer--are recreated here and shown in full detail! I personally found all the gore hard to take seriously and was actually laughing at the more over the top ones. Also this movie knows its audience--it has all the slasher movie clichés and barrels through them at lightning speed! There are no long boring searches through dark houses or rooms. The ones here are done quick and violent--one in a supermarket actually scared me! The killer runs after his victims at full speed too--he doesn't just casually walk after them like Jason or Myers do. The ultimate solution seemed pretty stupid--but I'm not complaining. Also there's good acting by Ackles who had a hard role and King was just excellent. Also a great scene, for some audience members, has a completely nude woman is chased by the killer. And yes--everything is shown in detail.A kick-a**, gory, strong and most importantly scary horror film! I give this a 9. A must for horror fans. The 3-D version is the only way to see it.
Superb remake of a true 80's cult fave! (by TalesfromTheCryptfan)
10 Years ago, a series of brutal horrific crimes have been committed in the town of Harmony on Valentine's Day and a mine worker named Harry Warden Richard John Walters was left for dead in a accident. He came back as a mass murderer but was killed by the local cops including former Sheriff Burke Tom Atkins , the holiday now returns to Harmony as the town is now safe again after those murders. Tom Jenson Ackles was a former resident that has returned back to town after 10 years but when ghastly clues including human hearts in candy boxes are found especially bizarre murders <more>
everywhere including the local mines, but is Harry Warden back from the dead or is someone following in his footsteps?A fantastic reimagining of a cult 1981 Canadian slasher classic is very faithful to the original. Co-starring Sexy Betsy Rue, Kerr Smith, and Todd Farmer this 3D horror event lives up to it's title for i love how they modernize the classic horror tale for a new generation but done in amazing 3D which is better at the theater but still the Blu-Ray and DVD versions has both 3D and 2D versions. The film has a retro feel of those glorious 70's and 80's horror movies in a good way including a self-referential sense of humor ala "Scream" and the violence/gore in this movie is just as brutal as the one in the original but gorier. The acting is quite good even by Tom Atkins who is a 80's horror movie god, this is pure great fun for every horror fan but make sure to experience it in 3D.
My Bloody Valentine 3D is one of those really rare kinds of horror flicks. It delivers buckets of gore, brisk pacing, and a lot of in your face 3D goodness. Sit close to the front of your theater for the maximum effect if you dare! . There is brutality in king size portions, sure to satisfy the most hardcore of horror fans. They really pull out all the stops with that pickaxe's of his. Perhaps most importantly though, the production and marketing teams were aware of what it what it was. At its core, its a cheesy mindless slasher film, and rather than try to overcome this, My Bloody <more>
Valentine acknowledges this trait and works with it. It owns it. Internet ads bore slogans such as 'Its actually 4D if you're wasted.' Never does it get bogged down trying to patch together an airtight story. It just keeps its unrelenting pace up from start to finish, and delivers what the audience came out to see, gratuitous violence.A film like this is quite refreshing for the genre, not because it is artful by any means, but because it embraces its inherent trashiness. By deliberately failing to take itself seriously, My Bloody Valentine becomes something more than the majority of its peers can ever be. It becomes fun in the same way that a Poison concert or monster truck rally is fun. Take my advice and see this thing as it was meant to be seen, through beer goggles and a pair of cheap 3D glasses. Enjoy it for what it is and don't worry about the second thoughts you might have tomorrow morning.
I missed out on the 80's 3D craze- films in the Jaws, Amityville and Friday the 13th franchises all getting 3d instalments on the big screen. Well it seems 2009 will make up for that, with My Bloody Valentine, Final Destination 4 and Pirahna all adding an extra dimension to their proceedings. My Bloody Valentine is a great start. It's fun, gory, doesn't spend too much time on the dialogue, because it understands we're wearing these ridiculous glasses for a reason! I really enjoyed it actually- and for someone who has watched so many slashers, the 3d did add some wonderful novel <more>
touches, so it felt like more than just a retread. I know it's cool to bash remakes these days and admittedly so many are very weak but I much prefer this to the original- which seemed to plod along at quite a pedestrian pace, and besides the mining town setting, really didn't offer anything especially new. This film is far tighter and doesn't take itself so seriously- it has its tongue-firmly-in-cheek.The only downsides are perhaps the stalk and kill sequence involving a naked lady. I guess some horror fans like their nudity, but in a genre so often viewed as misogynistic, it didn't do itself any favours. Admittedly the character is actually quite strong and fun- you don't feel her nudity weakens or humiliates her, but... I dunno, perhaps pandering a little too much for the teenage boys? Go catch this at the cinema, take a few friends, and enjoy an hour and a half of silly fun.
Everything about it was what i wanted an more.yes this film has a few flaws, but they really didn't change the experience for me. I took my fraternity brothers because I have been talking about this movie since i rushed last semester. they were all really skeptical. but once the movie started i kinda think they enjoyed it a little more than i did. but we were cheering, screaming, laughing, dodging gun barrels and bloody pick axes in our seats.this movie is a great roller-coaster thrill ride despite its minor pacing issues in the beginning of the film.great homages to the original and <more>
slasher films in general.i didn't see the end coming and was very content with its conclusion.yes some parts of the film would not be as entertaining in 2D but the film its self is a great slasher, good kills, lots of blood, chilling at moments, creepy, eerie, good plot. ild say its one of the best remakes because its so true to the genre and its rules. Betsy Rue has one of the more amusing and thrilling scenes and the grocery store scene has people yelling at the screen.plus we have a cast of smart self conflicted adults which made the character relationships better than in the original.plus...Jaime King has earned her place as a horror scream queen. im proud of her.it was a fun night and i will be seeing it a few more times this weekend and watching the hell out of it on DVD.overall the films an 8/10...not perfect but its a whole lot of something...dam good something.
