c'mon people it really is good no great (by lcraig4) |
Alright i constantly read reviews of this film and am shocked that a lot of people don't seem to like. Let me first say that this isn't a film I love because I saw it when I was a kid in the '80s like other reviwers. I'm 16 and first viewed it last year. My first viewing of this flick didn't impress me, but the second and third ones really did. So people need to see this film more than once to see its amazingness. Here is what a lot of people seem to hate about the film. first they say that the cast is ugly. well I know that they are not beautiful but they are not hideous <more> |
A GENRE MASTERPIECE (by MADMANMARZ) |
Madman is without a doubt my favorite horror film of all time. This film has all the elements of perfection. From the excellent use of lighting, the atmosphere and the sound track, it's an over all genre study of how to make a horror film, and scare the wits out of the audience. I think the director was over looked and deserved more jobs. The movie works so well it amazes me that nobody in the cast worked on too many other films. Watch this movie followed by Blair witch and you tell me what movie scared you more!! This is how you do it!! I'm sprry to tell you but there is not one <more> |
Underrated and overlooked terrific horror film! (by bmovies) |
After the success of movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween, there followed thousands of slasher film imitators throughout the late seventies and early eighties. I was around 10-13 when these type of films were coming out by the hundreds and I saw alot of them. No matter how cheesy, cheap and lousy they were, they never failed to scare the pants off of me, because lets face it, I was a young coward. However, now that I am an adult and watching these type of films all over again, I look at them and ask myself: "What was I so frightened of?" I just cannot believe that such lousy <more> |
The scariest movie this side of Halloween (by chainsaw-8) |
I saw this movie when I was 12 and it scared the hell out of me. This flick has a cold, scary look that is really chilling, and despite some lousy performances is one of the most frightening movies I've seen. Love the "thud...thud..." music and the atmosphere! |
A lost slasher classic. (by haildevilman) |
Scared the hell out of me when I caught it in the theater back in 1981. Did it again when I got the DVD last year. This hasn't lost any of it's punch despite the unoriginal plot and lack of star power. Even the trailers are still scary.Axe murderer Never understood that term. How does one murder an axe??? *rimshot* loose at a campground? Been done. Almost supernatural villain? Seen it. Sex-crazed teenagers? Yeah, that too. Somehow this time it worked. Good scares and likable characters. I can't figure out how this film slipped under the radar. It deserves a second life. |
CLASSIC SLASHER (by kirbylee70-599-526179) |
At a recent panel discussion of the film MY BLOODY VALENTINE director George Mihalka noted that current horror fare was filled with beautiful people. Male models with six packs, female models who were gorgeous, all took the place of ordinary people in horror films. Reflecting at the current spate of horror films I found that his statement was true. It wasn't that people in horror films of the past were ugly but they were so, well, perfect looking. The use of the beautiful people has made horror films ones that most of us can't relate to. It's as if the victims were no longer us <more> |
Great slasher flick. (by HumanoidOfFlesh) |
"Madman" starts with the typical scene of teens sitting around the campfire listening to scary tales.A head of camp,Max tells them the true story of Madman Marz.Marz was a brutal farmer who lived in the house by the campsite and who beat his wife and two kids.During one such fight he even had part of his nose bitten off!One night the freaky farmer took his axe and chopped up his family as they slept, and for such a nasty deed the locals decided to whack him across the face with his axe and string him up from a tree. One their return they find Marz has vanished, taking the bodies of his <more> |
Yet another forgotten gem (by acidburn-10) |
The Plot It's the final night for the season at a summer camp, and all of the counsellors and children have gathered around the campfire to tell ghost stories. The old man who runs the camp tells the story of Madman Marz, a deranged man who killed his family with an axe, not far away from the camp. Naturally one of the kids make fun of the story, but what no one realizes is that the legend is real, and that Madman Marz is still lurking around in the woods by the camp...I think Madman is definitely one of the best backwoods/camp slasher films to come out of the 1980's, It's got a <more> |
A Memorable 'Woods' Slasher (by dagonseve) |
Madman 1982 : A Memorable 'Woods' SlasherReleased in 1982, Madman is another Slasher flick that features helpless campers sent to the slaughter for our viewing entertainment. At this point in the game you're probably thinking, "Again?!" Although it's difficult to overlook clichéd elements within this sub-genre some movie directors manage to get the balance right – regardless of a low budget. This is where the cult classic, already-out-of-print Madman aka Madman Marz makes its appearance in order to woo us over. The film opens with a varied group of campers <more> |
