Truly stunning (by laurencehill-01692) |
A work of art, truly stunning film that had everything but at the centre is a truly touching love story between two very abused women. I loved this so much and it's beautifully shot and written |
Fantastic Perfomances create a fascinating tale (by xshanex-54161) |
It would be difficult to fully review the film without giving away much, but this is easily the greatest and most bold telling of The Famed Lizzie Borden story.Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart have an undeniable chemistry, and grant us with Award Worthy performances, that bring us into the world of Lizzie Borden. More of a suspenseful drama than Horror, but with an ending that will leave you floored! Lizzie delivers everything I could've wished for. I'll be owning this one for sure! A true work of art. Don't miss out! |
Captivating (by danielle-popovits) |
I loved it. I was never bored, was never questioning anything about the plot or dialogue. I can see how it might be slow to someone who doesn't enjoy literature or the theater -however I do, and it was everything I was hoping it would be. |
It's definitely worth the watch (by sdemelo) |
A resident of Fall River, Massachusetts where the crime took place I thought the film was a very good representation of a theory of what happened in the Borden house in 1982. I have been listening to these theories since I was a child and to be be honest I was a little skeptical going in but also anxious to see hollywood's Take on our infamous socialite. Acting was great, which was to be expected because the cast is phenomenal. The score was great and added just the right amout of suspense to a film where you kinda know what is going to happen. The film is a little slow in some parts but <more> |
Tragic result of a lifetime of pent-up RAGE (by jmholmes-73727) |
To a great degree most of this seems based on what are known to be the facts concerning this notorious double murder. The motive as to why Miss Borden "took an axe," etc. is left to the screenplay, however, and as it plays out seems both plausible, believable and, of course, terrifying. We observe the tragic results of a lifelong submission to a brutal patriarchal control. Though the Bordens may not have deserved what they got, we at least can sense just why they may have gotten it. The acting is excellent all around. Only weakness seems due to budgetary problems that prevented us <more> |
Well shot, great chemistry (by kevindouchkoff) |
Loved the chemistry between Stewart and Sevigny and it is beautifully shot. The Borden house is almost a character in and of itself. With so many films that move so fast, it was refreshing to watch the tension build in the household slowly. This film added so much more to the infamous story that I already knew. It brought it to life. While Sevigny may not be happy with the final product, as a fan of hers and Stewart's I was impressed. Also, great performance by Denis O'Hare as Lizzie's uncle. |
Tale of friendship and uncommon love that ends in violent means. (by blanbrn) |
"Lizzie" is a well done and told out film about the 1892 murders of the Borden family, and the two leads act well together as Kristen and Chloe have great on screen chemistry together. The Borden family is one of wealth and power as when they hire a housekeeper and family Irish maid Bridget Sullivan Kristen Stewart things change especially for the young daughter Lizzie Chloe Sevigny . Thru it all this is an emotional drama of isolation, discovery, pain, and guilt that involves sexual abuse and the need for freedom. It proves that with all of these themes things lead up to suspense <more> |
Oscar worthy performances by Sevigny and Stewart (by palovyper) |
This is an excellent film with Oscar worthy performances by both Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart. Atmospheric, tense and well-paced, although the tempo might be too slow for some. |
