10 stars. Let me explain why... (by EnemyPavement)
A while back I rewatched this movie with a friend more or less as a joke. But wile watching, I realized...It's not that bad.In fact, It's pretty good. Granted, it's not a great film but considering it's a straight-to-video sequel that no one asked for, they actually seemed to make it work. The movie takes a look at the life of the original film's comic relief character Kronk. A character who, originally, was nothing more than a goofy ripped guy who could cook and talk to squirrels. But in this film, they actually gave Kronk the depth he deserved. It's also surprisingly <more>
funny. the work itself is probably a 5 or a 6.But then I took into consideration the following:It seems as though Disney actually hired competent writers and animators to make a cheap sequel this time around. It feels like the writers truly cared about the first film and the work they were doing. They stayed within the thematic and tonal confines of the first film while also keeping consistent with the same brand of humor. This film was a labor of love. And though it's far from perfect, they managed to make a decent film in a low budget studio that is known only for continually producing DVDs of crappy sequels that do nothing except tarnish the rep of the films they're spun from.So I give it 10 stars for being the best Straight-to-video sequel out there.
An extremely funny comedy with the perfect mix for a perfect film! Highly recommended! (by rdsf-1)
I ordered Kronks New Groove - Highly recommended. When I ordered this DVD I had no expectations, I had no idea what the movie was going to be like, I trusted my instincts and thought it was going to be good, it was not good, it was amazing.Emperors new groove 1 was a smash hit for Disney, it was fresh, original and funny. Now what I find strange is why they didn't release Kronks New Groove in the cinema because it was just as good as the first movie. There is a lovely love interest for Kronk that really spurs much more humor in the movie. The Movie starts off a bit slow and gradually builds <more>
up to a spectacular ending. One of Disneys finest animated classics. Also includes a rather funny 'How to cook a movie' featured, and 2 new games.
I thought that this sequel was going to be kind of cute. It had almost all the same can cast voices plus Tracey Ulman. IlLOVED the original and found this just as funny and cute. Try to get it and see if you think the same thing. Although I don't know if kids will find this, or even if they found the first one funny. But I do recommend it.One of the things that I liked most was the modern references. Some slang and a few 'ebonic'type phrases, but they were cute. Tracey Ulman has a good voice for voice overs. I was surprised, but very pleased. I also thought that there use of <more>

i thought kronks new groove was a great movie my favorite character in that movie was Ms. Birdwell she was cool and of course emperor Kuzco and i liked how at the beginning of the movie how the 1st lines in the 1st ans 2nd movie were almost completely the same starting out with the bad thing that happened and how they made things better of course Kronk made the movie interesting he was kind of dumb but not as dumb as in the 1st movie in this movie he had turned his life around from being a villain to a good humble fry cook and head delivery boy and way he tells stories about what happened to <more>
him the 1st one was how he got the big house on the hill that Papi had always wanted him to have by selling ysmas fake youth potion then he felt bad about buying the old peoples home so he gave it back and in his next story he met the girl of dreams her name was Ms. Birdwell at first it was all about the competition with the two troops then Kronk and Birdwell made the scouts raisin bread and fell in love but tipo didn't quite hear about that so he remembered that Kronk had told them to do what ever it takes to win so he misunderstood him and cheated in the cheer off and Birdwell caught him and was scolding him but Kronk felt bad about it so he took the blame and Birdwell walked out of his life forever so he thought after he was done telling the stories papi came to the restaurant and found out he didn't have all things he wanted him to have but he was always there for his friends so Papi gives him a thumbs up but then just as everyone is going back in the restaurant tipo comes back and brings Ms.Birdwell they walk in the restaurant and dance and the movie ends but in the ending pictures its shows they got married and went on a cruse for they're honeymoon.
A fantastic sequel, as fun as the original (by franz-90)
"The Emperor's new groove" is a fantastic comedy that has been entertaining me since its debut in cinemas. Now there's another comedy, "Konk's new groove", who is as fun as the original. Rarely Disney keeps the original's spirit alive in a sequel sequel?this seems more a spin-off , but they've done a great job for this one. Kronk is lovable and as realistic as ever, and the gags are original and very funny! The animation is not fantastic, and some characters, especially Yzma one of my favourite Disney characters! and Pacha's wife are less expressive <more>
than in the original.Anyway, the characters' look is faithful to the original. The songs are pretty and entertaining as well, especially the Yzma's one, in a cabaret-style. If you like the first film as a comedy, you won't miss this excellent sequel. Great work!
Was actually, dare I say it, good. (by http_dougie)
First I'll get this off my chest: I was torn between a 7 or an 8... I leaned towards the latter because it was straight to video, and therefore I feel the standards are off.As a very vocal fan of the original Emperor's New Groove, I have been avoiding Kronk's New Groove at every cost. I'm very much aware at how Disney sequels bomb. I'm not sure if it's the lack of money, lack of interest, or Disney's lack of ability to put their characters in new situations convincingly i.e., The Little Mermaid II .Tonight I caved in and saw Kronk's New Groove and, dare I say <more>
it, it was actually good. I liked it's mirroring of the original in format, especially with the opening theme song guy, being a chick! The songs were actually pretty good, meaning I didn't find myself asking, "what the hell is this crap?" i.e., Return of Jafar .It was a fun movie, great animation for what it is, and wouldn't mind watching it a second time. I do agree with some of the previous reviewers, that this film seemed like a series of Saturday morning cartoons, but that's what most movies are, a series of events which slowly connect to a conclusion. Everything that happens in this movie leads up to the conclusion of explaining Kronk's true nature, etc.But yeah, so that's the end of my sappy praising of this Disney Sequel. Basically, if you're not too prejudice, go rent or buy Kronk's New Groove. By now I'm sure it's $10.00 at Target.
More than just a pleasant surprise (by MaxJSteele)
Another unnecessary sequel from those pesky cartoonists at Disney, right? A less-than-acclaimed original in the first place, right? Sure, I can agree with those sentiments; after all, I thought them as I popped in the DVD, watching only on the recommendation of a less than reliable source. Yet all I can say is I enjoyed it."Kronk's New Groove" includes some of the crude humor becoming increasingly present in Disney's 21st century work, but beyond that point it is a fun little story about burly henchman-turned-chef Kronk, best remembered for his idle squirrel chit chat in the <more>
original. Here, Kronk finds himself trying to please his father, but struggling when his conscience intervenes with his efforts. But story is not what carries this movie. It is the delightful anachronisms, the self-defacing humor, the cross-dressing, the parodies, and the PERFECT voice provided by Patrick Wharburton to Kronk that makes this so much fun. The story alone is predictable, but with edgy humor ornamenting it, the movie draws laughs and maybe even a tear .So before writing "Kronk" off as another waste of time and animation by the Disney brain-trust, check it out at Hollywood Video or Blockbuster. It was well worth the $3.00, in my opinion.
