Quite the achievement for a budget sci fi.... (by s3276169)
When so much money is spent on so little its commendable to see a budget sci fi that puts the big end of town to shame. Kill Command is, based on its budget, an excellent film. The storyline utilizes a very familiar premise where future military meets sentient technology, with Terminator, style outcomes. Whats different is the genuine attention to detail.Real military equipment is use and combined with very plausible interpretations of where military technology could go in the not too distant future. The result is an immersive film, that keeps the viewers attention and holds it. The actual <more>
story is pretty basic but its done with such panache, you hardly notice. Better still, the action is well balanced and spaced out throughout the film rather than being squeezed into the last twenty or so minutes. The directing and acting is pretty solid too. The characterizations feel real and they have a polish I would not have expected for a film with a budget this size. All in all, one hell of a top notch effort on a shoestring. Hang your head in shame Hollywood, this is how action sci fi should be made. Maybe you could take some notes from these guys. Ten out of ten from me.
10 out of 10, for a B-movie. (by InterArmaEnimSilentLeges)
This is exactly what a B-movie should be like! They knew their budget constraints and made sure to make a movie that would look good within that budget. Far too many B-movie producers mistakenly believe that they'll somehow magically be able to create an epic $100 million movie, for a 20th of the price. This movie doesn't do that. It knows what it is, and how much money it's got, and spends it wisely. And let me tell you, everything looks gorgeous! That boss robot is the creepiest design I've seen since the original Terminator. The acting is surprisingly good, if a tad bit on <more>
the low-key side. But hey, at least they're not over playing and hamming it up like Shatner's Kirk, like so many B-movies. : And besides, the low-key acting actually works well in this movie. I can definitely see everyone involved, from the actors and director, to the cameramen and VFX people moving up to the A-list if they got the chance to work with a bigger budget. The camera work is really nice, with very competent focus while working with a beautifully short depth-of-field, which is far too often left out of B-movies or otherwise botched. Not here though; in this movie the cameramen knew what they were doing. The only bad thing you can say about this movie is that script could've probably used a rewrite from big-time Hollywood scriptwriter. There's nothing terribly wrong with it, it just lacks that last 5% to make it a true classic. You know, the difference between a good movie, and an excellent movie that develops a cult following, and a line of merchandise. : Overall a solid 10 out of 10, for a B-movie. Compared to all movies I'd probably give it a 7, and I recommend all sci-fi fans to check it out!
This is my first time writing a review after using IMDb since 1995 to get all my movie info and think it's time to start writing reviews seeing as Iam a movie maniac and watch all movies good and bad. First this movie I had doubts. Didn't know the actors not sure who the director was. But for the amount of bad movies that have come out for the last decade, this movie is pay dirt. Solid action scenes, great actor for not knowing any of them , solid story.....low budget yes but hey its really good. People say its predictable.... I didn't think so but everyone can say any movies <more>
predictable.I will be writing more review for folks since a majority of good flicks I have seen helped me watch good ones. I feel like movies now a days are just completely........ I dunno the word but Hollywood's not trying anymore. The last solid film was mad max fury road. Anywhoo watch this movie if your a military, sci fi, action fan.
The Movie is like WALL-E amidst the pile of rubbish (by sheshamaro)
I was very skeptical at first to watch a sci-fi with no big banner/ names or cast, but wanted to give it a try. I was so surprised that the team could come up with such an overused story line and execute it in a very different way.The CGI or special effects or robots used were very convincing and well edited and directed by Steven Gomez, to show the world a much better view of a well known script.I would advise anyone, who wants to see something new, refreshing, simple Sci-Fi based subject, this is the one for you. The BGM and acting along with machines and CGI will keep you on the edge of <more>
your seat yet craving for more. Thank you for reading.
Really well done budget sci-fi film (by adrianjherr)
Kill Command is a really well done budget sci-fi film. It's so well done you might forget it's a budget film. As others have noted the script could be better at parts, but overall the script is more than adequate and the rest of the film is so well done I didn't even notice the script until I read other reviews.Really well done film. Kudos to the cast and crew.
Best in genre since the original Predator (by stan_ta_fx)
I rarely watch a movie for more than one time. The Predator I saw around 50. Kill Command is a Predator made with ideas and technology more modern by 30 years. If you remember your feeling from watching the Predator for the first time - you will certainly enjoy Kill Command. A very balanced mix of action, thrill, suspense, characters and on-the-edge technology. This movie does not fit the latest line of popular hits filled with fast changing flashing scenes inducing epileptic seizures in Japanese teens. It does portray future combat technology, but in a way that it feels very real as if it <more>
was taken from some secret lab in Area 51. Same as with the Predator you quickly forget this is a sci-fi movie. I guess this is its key feature. I will watch it again tomorrow :
you know the feeling when you tired and have nothing to do and already watched all the recent movies up there so you pick any not-very- promising film to be as a visual background to relax with? and suddenly you face the reality that it turned to be a very entertaining picture to watch! i expected to watch a low budget-shitty effects movie with a bad story and line. instead i watched a really great effects. the line was not random and the actors were good. you wont expect to get a SHASHANK REDEMPTION story in an action film, yet the story was good very nicely done guys, it was a great job. <more>
P.S. if it was an eighties-film it would have won an Oscar of special effects hehehe , yet we are not in the 80s!
Think "Predator/Aliens", but sponsored by Boston Dynamics (by individual-297-994063)
I really like this film as it is extremely well done. The VFX will stand up against any similar sci-fi movie. The film did not waste any time getting to the plot, so nor shall I. Some time in the not too distant future, the proverbial Evil Corp has sensed something is amiss and has sent it's mysterious, digitally augmented female scientist and a few marines to a training island to see what's happening. After a few minutes in the forest, we sense that the augmented scientist knows more then she is letting on. At this point if you call yourself a sci-fi fan, you will already suspect <more>
what is going to happen upon entering the dense forest. Like my girlfriend & I, you will probably start laying on bets regarding who will survive. However this predicable feeling does not detract you from watching the film. The characters are likable, after a ten minutes or so on the island, you start to feel for the actors as they begin to open up to the camera. There is the usual bunch: the mean guy, the nice guy, the cold robot like girl, the cowardly guy, the big muscle guy who says five words and there are the cannon fodder guys all the best sci-fi movies rely this team format .The script is no Oscar winner, but imagine if they only had a million dollars to make Predator and there was no Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now imagine the same for Aliens, add a few really talented VFX guys, some really great concept art people, a half decent script and this is probably the movie you would have got. Yes! You know the story, you have seen the character archetypes before and you think you know how it will end. However you can always tell a well done film because you know all this and you are still want to watch until the very last scene. This is how I felt, so I gave it a 8/10. 7.4/10 would probably be more accurate, however I think they deserved the rounded up score, rather then the round down.PS: The person who I was certain would live, ended up dying. So I guess I can still be surprised every now and then. Enjoy
For a low budget movie with almost no marketing Kill Command is a cool film. The special effects are top notch, the acting is good, the story is engaging, the pace is keeping you on your tows. It's not the most original story, that's true, but up until the very end I didn't cringe at all.Think Aliens with robots and you get a pretty clear picture of the scope of the script. Not as good, but not bad either. Some things were a bit off putting. I mean, the movie actually has a Chekhov's gun, only his name is not Chekhov and he's black! The military tactics used are bad, but <more>
not laughable. Also the ending... I am conflicted about it. On one hand it could be Matrix's AI in the human world sequel that we've dreamed about ever since Smith uploaded himself into a person. On the other hand it could be a high tech classic villain second wind which dooms the story to obscurity.Bottom line: There are no high level questions being asked about Artificial Intelligence or human nature here, but it is a well done action sci-fi movie. I am curious if a sequel will be made, considering the efforts in the CGI and the successful establishment of the universe.
