You know it's gonna be interesting when it polarizes... (by screwhal) |
I love Ellen Page and her taste in directors. In my opinion this is her best performance since "Mouth to Mouth". The film is about the relationship between two sisters Nell Page and Eva Wood living their lives after a global? power outage. But I don't want to write a resume. I can see that the movie might be a bit slow here and there and if you look hard you'll find some irrational stuff but I just have to tell you why I gave this one a 10/10. It had the most real characters I ever saw. I feel like this was such a big risk to make but it worked and totally blew me away. <more> |
a must see (by mitrapourmand) |
In a near future there is a power shortage , two sisters who have just lost their dad are now on their own . This is the mail line of this movie but it would be silly to think that its just it , this movie is a metaphor for the destruction of the world as we know it the world where people are so caught up in their own world and dreams that cant even see that everything around them is falling apart the scenes in which Eva dances to a metronome is an example nothing matters ,we as human beings have to have things or achieve goals or do what we want no matter what we do or who we hurt the <more> |
I liked it (by nzdischner) |
I just finished it, and I liked it a lot, I don't even care if parts of it were unrealistic I thought it was a good watch, the acting was good too idk why people are hating on the acting they did a good job. It's been a long day and I'm glad I picked this movie to watch. Give it a shot. |
Beautiful Work by Patricia Rozema (by dwood-42372) |
I had the privilege of seeing this at a film festival in Chicago, where the director--Patricia Rozema--gave a Q&A session after the credits rolled. Before walking in, all I knew was that it starred Ellen Page and Evan Rachel Wood--actresses whom I thought were talented as is-- and that it was a "post-apocalyptic" film. However, rather than zombies or nuclear fallout wiping out humankind, what I saw was an emotionally powerful story of how two sisters enter a new world while discarding an old one; through this process, I saw some of the most believable character arcs thanks to <more> |
Very Impressive Film! (by lodehere) |
I just watched it on one of those sites were people upload movies, and I'm still feeling emotionally engaged. It appears on that site under "Drama, Sci-Fi", and rightly so.For those versed in the meaning of spiritual parables, it is a symbolic rendering of coming to this world, experiencing being but a human, all to eventually bring new life here, after going through many forms of suffering, like losing one's contact with our original life force electricity and Source the Father by no longer enjoying His company, and destroying our original home. I went straight into this movie, no read up, no reviews.. (by DominaTroy) |
This movie, being under some categories as thriller/drama and even Sci-Fi, don't quite fit nor do it justice. Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page are sisters living in a post-apocalyptic word, with their father. Somewhere in the "Pacific Northwesr" however no location is given. What I love most about this move, and what I think that true movie watcher will appreciate is how real, connected, and undeniably candid the two sisters relationship is throughout the entire movie. This alone, made this this a definitely 9 for me. One 'ore star was not given for reasons I will not share <more> |
A Very Good Movie (by yigitkn) |
This movie tells us the story of building a new life without ordinary acquisitions of the modern world as well as the basic human needs such as safety, sheltering and hunger. The post-electricity set-up is very simple in an isolated environment and we do not know the reasons but this is not important at all. The main focus of the movie is on human emotions and reactions.Just like the characters, we feel unsafe and helpless throughout the entire movie. The movie wants us to ask ourselves some basic questions about the concepts of home, family and society.Cinematography and acting are also <more> |
Emotional, Intense and a great film. (by deannalee-66730) |
I actually went to the premiere in Toronto and Patricia Rozema was there doing a Q and A session with the audience. I thought the film was great. It really took you into what the charters were going through and their emotions. Even and Ellen did an amazing job portraying sisters struggling to keep their sanity and survive in the secluded woods. They really captured real emotions of what people would be going though in a situation like that. Patricia did an incredible job as director. Hearing her speak about the film, you could tell she put her heart in it and has a love for the characters and <more> |
Very Powerful (by allyfender1) |
I rented this movie this evening after wanting to see this movie since I'm a big fan of both lead actresses. I thought the movie was very raw and emotional and stunningly shot. Ellen and Evan had such a raw connection on screen and their chemistry was amazing. The only reason I haven't given this one a 10 is mainly because I expected more from the ending, after such emotional turmoil I expected more of a reprieve from the isolation for the characters but I can see how that would be less realistic based on the subject matter. Definitely worth a watch especially since both ladies gave <more> |
