Excellent film but not a horror (by sarah-knight76-936-856624)
I don't normally do reviews but i enjoyed this film that much that i just had to. Firstly i thought it was going to be your average zombie movie i like zombie flicks ...it isn't. It is about an infection outbreak that is having an effect on people however it is far from average zombie film. It is unique and don't think its ever been done before. Excellent plot!!! Well delivered. Really enjoyed it. So horror it isn't but worth watching it is. With a really good twist.I cant say more without giving the game away but i really cant recommend it enough.
Surprisingly excellent!!! (by philipposathina)
When I picked this film up out of the "on demand" choices of my home cinema provider, I thought it would be just one more of those b-movies, where the "good guys", hidden from zombies or werewolves or vampires or something like it, finally have to fight for their lives when their hide out is found by the "monsters" Well, a couple of minutes after the film started playing on my TV, I started to think that it would be something better than that. A quarter of an hour later I became pretty sure that I was watching something genuine. And as suspense started to <more>
rise soon after that, I just made myself comfortable on the sofa and fully concentrated on the plot that was revealing its quality minute by minute. The surprisingly smart, original and satisfactory twist in the end, gave me the good rest. Look guys, what does a thriller need to be a good movie? Well all I can tell you is that this one had all the good elements needed to put it in the "excellent" rank category, since - though after "the others", my expectations from any other thriller movie are limited- I do not want to be mean with excellent efforts undervaluing them. So, a dark, claustrophobic atmosphere was there, an imminent escalating threat was there, good acting was there, a solid and eloquent direction was there and –last but not least- a twisted, pretty unexpected but quite reasonable and not at all overreacting ending was there too! What else should I expect to call this film an excellent piece of its genre? I am not at all an easy spectator, but I don't want to be a mean one, either!
I can't say to much about this movie without giving stuff away so I will keep it short & sweet. I was blown away by this movie the cast are excellent, the theme is excellent & this movie certainly packs a punch I was shocked & in awe by the end of hidden & simply put you have to see this movie. There is a disease outbreak & everyone has to leave town so the movie centres round a couple & their daughter who flee the the outbreak & find an underground bunker to hide in until things calm down & they must Ali keep their young daughter occupied & make things <more>
feel as normal as possible when up above them everything has changed & through flashbacks we start to see how all the events unravelled on the day of the outbreak & how they ended up in the precarious position they find themselves.
Somehow more, and less, than I expected. (by kingdazy-1)
I was *very* pleasantly surprised by this film. Is it a "scary" horror? No, not necessarily, although it did have a few moments. It ended up being a subtle story, brilliantly told for the most part, a great character study and acting. Filmed in a brilliant little set, claustrophobic and moody. If you're looking for jump scares and special effects, guns and explosions, screaming bimbos and tough-guy saviors, this is not for you.It was perhaps a little heavy handed in its last 1/4, trying to "explain" things, but we all know that directors often think an average audience <more>
can need that. I think a little subtlety would have gone a long way with this, esp in editing.I highly recommend not researching this film, knowing anything beforehand.
Hidden has a stunning plot, it's not like other zombie movies like "Dawn Of The Dead" or "28 Days Later". This movie is way different and way better and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in a "End of the world" type of movie. Hidden is also an extremely heart- wrenching movie due to the fight for survival of the family. Most definitely a 9/10 rating. If you are not prepared for the tears then I suggest you do not watch. I would most likely consider this a horror movie because of some jump scares and being on the "edge of your seat" <more>
at some parts. Personally, I am not interested in sitting down and watching a zombie movie but this caught my eye not even 15 minutes into it. This is the first movie I have seen about a fallout shelter and a desperate family trying to survive during a serious outbreak right above them. Give it a try, you will thank me later!
Cinema is full of crap, I know this movie is not a 9/10 is about a 7.But Cinema now a day and in the horror/zombie flick are shi...., about 3-4/10 most of them. What a shame, I really do not understand how Movie Industry works, maybe, the film was not political correct?, maybe the kid should'd been a black girl while having white parents? most shi.. movies of now a day . Maybe they needed and interracial couple? A Jew boy and a gentile or vice-versa ?Maybe instead of a little girl some little boy, acting like a girl for fomenting homosexualisms and "self sensuality <more>
choice".Really a shame. Recommending to all people that I know.
Awesome "zombie" movie with a twist (by shadowcatthewizard)
Absolutely incredible acting. The father and mother were, of course considering who played them great, but the girl in the movie was completely awesome. What a great twist on a "zombie" movie--and I'm not about to give anything away. Its time for you to spend some time on the edge of your seat like I did. I loved the way the story worked in what happened by flashes of the past that were still tied to the present. This movie is well worth what you will pay to watch it. This movie reminded me of a horror story of old like " The Haunting", where scenes took their time <more>
to build and had you fully invested in what was going on when anything dramatic happened. Watch it in a dark room and enjoy!!!
Psychological Horror in a sense and dramatic at times. (by djoenaedi_d)
First of all what defines horror? Jump scares or gore? There is all kinds of types of horror. I'd say the fear of losing your family can be horrifying. It's all a matter of perspective and maybe empathy at times. I for one really felt the bond between the father and daughter. The father constantly keeps his family's sanity together. The first half of the movie is all about these aspects and doesn't show anything remotely scary. The only mentioning about the creatures, referred as "The Breathers" comes from the daughter who isn't allowed to talk about them anymore. <more>
If you lost interest by now just because you didn't see anything scary then just stop watching. If you are wondering what they are hiding from stay tuned. In other words the horror aspect is more so the fact they are hiding from forces that are a threat to them, but you don't actually see them until the second half of the movie. The acting is well done. Script is well done. Claustrophobic post- apocalyptic environment is well done. Flashbacks are well spread out and not overdone. I have seen far worse horror movies and this is just different. Even if you strip away all the horror it is supposed to have it's still a great movie IMO. The twists are there as well and in this day and age those are hard to do. Just freaking enjoy the movie and don't be so technical about it. Don't bash it just because it's not your definition of horror.
A wonderful surprise of a film that made me glad I watched it (by manuelasaez)
I loved everything about this movie; the acting, the set-up, the slow burn, the reveal. Everything worked so well that it was a just a joy of a film to watch. That little girl is so damned talented, and the parents were so convincing, I actually wondered if they knew that they were being filmed while they were acting.Interestingly, the best thing about this film had to be the third act. You think the film is about one thing, and then it flips that upside down in such a way as to have you wondering how you never guessed where they were going with the story in the first place. It was just an <more>
amazing sense of progression that was well realized, nicely paced, and incredibly effective. If there is any movie that deserves to be seen by as many people as possible, this is definitely the one. No one saw this coming, and I am SHOCKED that this film did not receive a wide theatrical release. Everyone deserves to be praised for their work in this movie. It really is superlative cinema.
