The name misleads (by mihaiovidiumatache) |
Let's get one thing straight: this is not an easy movie to digest! This does not subscribe the Hollywoodian pattern with happy ends and gratuitous nudity scenes. It's closer to Valhalla Rising than Pathfinder or any other viking movie. The violence is omnipresent and presented normal, as it was a part of the vikings nature. The movie depicts an episode of the viking society, a trial a viking future leader must undertake before being recognized as such. A sort of choosing the right man for the right job if you want; the motive is present mostly in archaic societies. The quest begins <more> |
A real feast to thoughts: What means to be a King (by siddharthasingh11) |
I am writing this comment because I believe that ratings are not doing justice with the film. User reviews are also not favorable and I believe otherwise. this movie is worth watching better then many higher rated movies.I started this movie not with any expectations but what I really got was amazing. In this movie the whole journey of the protagonist taught him as what to mean being a King. Stand for the righteous and punish the guilty whoever he is. this simple notion consist many essentials which the movie shows. but only for the person with some backbone. Not any action movie with a ideal <more> |
GREAT movie but I have a couple questions (by freemason241) |
I just don't get why this gets bad reviews. I think people forget they're watching a fictional movie and not a documentary. This movie was totally awesome. Great characters, fight scenes, and music/sound. Starts, carries, and ends with mega action. Fight scenes look "killer." Nothing better than Viking sword and hammer fights. Not sure if my questions are spoilers but ... 1. Is Vali a traitor? I'm pretty sure he is but it's never actually confirmed. Can anyone prove either way?2. Why is it called Hammer of the Gods? No mention or appearance of a hammer. |
confused! (by nickmancyboy35) |
when did this film ever pretend to be any more than it is, a very watchable good adventure film with a good plot and cast. Is this now the world of highbrow film reviews well your watching the wrong movie. It is a good film for what it is, a fast paced adventure with a cast who pull it off well, anyone with an interest in Vikings will enjoy this why try to find more, it is exactly what it sets out to be..bloody good fun and well worth a watch....I like Vikings the TV series who don't! I presume you spotted Rollo, I think the lead in this film played it very well and he had that Raganar <more> |
Better than you would expect (by dpaprotny) |
I absolutely LOVE this movie. It hits all the things that make a movie good for me. Did I enjoy it? YES! It was the perfect combination of violence and story that I love. Would I watch it again? YES! This is the biggest thing for me. If I enjoy a movie, it doesn't mean I'll watch it again. But I've seen this movie multiple times and it never ceases to be enjoyable. Is it the best movie ever? No. Is some of the dialogue a little weird? Yes. Is it historically accurate? No. But if you're watching a movie like this for historical purposes or because you expect it to be the best <more> |
Proves that a good action/war movie can be made without million dollar computer graphics (by wikicleaner) |
This is a good movie. The acting is fine as well as the story. This is not one of those million dollar cheesy viking/roman movies, i.e. Eagle and Centurion, perhaps that's why the previous reviewer did not like the movie. There are no Hollywood invested weird characters in this movie, nor million dollar CGI. It's all about the story and the acting. I think they did a good job and I am only writing this review my first & probably last because of the previous reviewer's harsh and strange comments. This is not as good as Ben Hur but it's a lot better than Eagle and Centurion. |
Why so many negative reviews? (by wogelberg) |
I liked it. It is not a Hollywood movie, it is a story of one guys rise as a warrior/becoming a psychopath. And what is all this about the characters doesn't develop, its a one man show. The rest of the cast are pretty much there to die. Ok, except for the protagonist, there is one character that doesn't die. Its a viking movie... They are not going to hug and develop as human being. It's decent acting, decent budget, and the protagonist has a character development into insanity that is believable. You want man crying and big battles, go watch some Braveheart. I need another <more> |
Great movie (by missjfletcher) |
Hey I think if you can sit down and get lost in a movie then its done its job. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Im a chick and I enjoyed the violence. It doesn't try and be too clever its just a good old fashioned romp through Viking land. Each to their own but I would say, snuggle up watch and get lost.Very cool I liked it! Its a movie I will be putting on my list of "Deserves another watch". Just watched it yesterday and have told a few people already that its worth spending time on.Go ahead. Action, vikings who could want more. Its not rocket science, its just entertainment! |
