Very scary, important metaphor (by soulspitter666)
Not much to say about this one, i really really liked it. The hour and a half prior to the money shot scene was worth the wait. I agree that this would be the best X-files episode ever if it were added to the series with Scully and Molder doing the investigating instead of the sheriff.I didn't read all the comments but if mine proves useful at all, i have to say, the entire abduction scene was an accident. The writer and director were pressured by the studio to put it in. It's beyond me why they didn't want one at all. Tracy Thorne concocted the whole thing to have a message that <more>
went deeper than aliens. It goes a little something like "how would you feel if you were taken from your comfortable lifestyle with your own species and subjected to cruel experiments with no way of reasoning with your captors, being humiliated and borderline raped with no reason of why" sound a little like when you used a magnifying glass on a random ant? or like the experiments done to animals for research? if we cant co-exist with our planets own damn creatures than where's the logic in wondering about aliens? District 9 is a little less vague, but still a good example of human ignorance.Best abduction movie to date! very scary, with a good message.
My Opinion on Fire In The Sky (by Anewfoundplague)
I'm not one to be gullible, and I agree with some of the other comments saying that Hollywood does project more of a well lets say Hollywood image on the movie. But.. I'd say I totally believe this event is true. Normally I'd say "Eh.. I don't know if that's true" but the fact that the men in real life actually took those lie detector tests I mean.. that's proof that this story wasn't totally made up. I am a firm believer in UFO's and I'd have to say I 100% believe this story. To say that alien Obductions have never happened is silly, their are <more>
too many people with these stories. Also another reason I tend to believe this story is because, The men in this story didn't really gain anything at all, in fact you could say when they came fourth with this story they lost instead of gained. The men were criticized throughout the town and still kept with their story. Travis, the man who abducted didn't deny the fact that he was abducted. I overall Believe this story and it was a very, very well made movie.
I couldn't sleep the night I saw this movie. Usually, "horror" movies don't scare me, but this one seemed like it could actually have happened! movie was based on true story . Then, call your doctor to get some Ambien to help you sleep. LOL. I've thought a lot since then about why I reacted so strongly to seeing this movie and come to the conclusion that I myself may have been abducted in the past and just don't have any conscious memory of it which is probably more common than anyone knows, for obvious reasons . A year or two after I saw this movie, I had a really <more>
weird thing happen. Having mid-back length hair, I was putting it back in a ponytail and checked it out by looking at the back of my head in my bathroom mirror, by using a hand-held mirror to see. It was then that I noticed that right underneath my ponytail was a 1 inch by 1 inch swatch of hair that was only about 1 inch long and sticking straight out from my head.It was all the same length, as if it had been cut off on purpose by someone. Well, it really creeped me out, because at the time I was single and lived alone. I hadn't had a haircut for over a year, and there was no way anyone could have cut it off, except for when I was sleeping, and I slept with the house locked up. I would have seen that much hair on the floor or in my brush if it was pulled or just fell out. It didn't make any sense, and perhaps was part of an abduction I don't remember. Who knows? Anyway, it made me remember the first and only time I ever watched this movie. Weird!
I'm very confused as to why they would describe the whites healers as the gray's testers since the ball of fire is the gray's vessel. The white's which are the beings in the movie are extremely clean whereas the gray's are filthy. The whites are also compassionate where the gray's are cold unemotional just there to do the job. Also the vessel for the whites is disc shaped. Saw the ball of fire inside and out in 1971 or 72 not sure of the date on route 66 between 9:oo to 9:30 pm right at the Texas/New Mexico border. I was pregnant with twins miscarried both. That's <more>
the only part of that movie that was wrong you will never see the whites on a gray's vessel. I know that won't happen because they could never stand to be in that filth. I told four officers from the LAPD about this in August 1988 right down to the fact that they hold you down on the table using a sheet. Maybe this group of men had been abducted before by the whites and didn't remember that's the only thing I can figure for them confusing the whites with this vessel.
Convinced me "truth" is in the eye of the beholder (by Phyllislechat)
Engrossing movie, disturbing images. Probably the most original version of what an alien abductee would see, hear, and feel on an alien vessel of any story in the genre. Proves only that truth is subjective, hysteria is contagious, eyewitnesses believe what they think they see. Excellent cast, well-played performances. I was almost too terrified and overwhelmed by "Travis's" experiences and post traumatic stress to stay in the movie theatre, or, years later, watch them again on DVD. The real heartbreaking role was that of his future brother-in-law, whose whole world unravels as <more>
the townspeople he grew up with turn on him, his wife refuses to trust he's telling the truth about what happened, and he is blamed by everyone including himself for abandoning Travis to his fate. To see him, years later, as an almost unrecognizable hermit is shocking and realistic.
This film makes you think...i dont care who you are...this film seems to be too real for some people...even me at times...but let me tell you...if you werent scared of aliens before than this will change your whole view...Close Encounters was a great film but it wasnt nearly as realistic as this one...seriously if you havent seen it you are missing out but then again im the one always looking up in fright...the directing from Robert Lieberman is really good too...very convincing...he is not very well known but this film should be credited as some of his best work...Robert Patrick did a good <more>
job portraying the abductee's best friend...doesnt Patrick always do well though?...and Sweeney makes you feel so sorry for Travis Walton...he did well too...above all go rent this movie...its very realistic and creepy...if you liked Signs or Close Encounters of a Third Kind go get this one because you are missing out on the most realistic Alien movie of all time...i yet to find a more convincing one!
After I watched this movie I took into perspective that aliens are freaking Scary. This movie probably has the best Alien abduction that I have ever seen. The aliens research on the man that got abducted was petrifying and the aliens themselves looked as scary as heck. I think this movie is Very underrated and should be seen by every true alien believer or anyone that is in for a good scare, besides after you see the movie i'm almost positive you will believe in them anyway. I think this movie is just as good as any alien movie i've ever seen and is sure as heck scarier.I definitely <more>
recommend this movie and if you like scary movies this is a must see.
A terrifying climax highlights this portrayal of the alleged 1975 alien abduction of logger Travis Walton. Walton and fellow loggers were driving one night when, the story goes, they spotted a mysterious spacecraft hovering over head. When Walton is beamed aboard and declared missing for several days, nobody believes his friends, providing an interesting angle on the story. This element of the film is particularly effective in building up suspense. Where is Walton and what did he experience? A cast that includes D.B. Sweeney, Robert Patrick and Henry Thomas Elliot from E.T. deliver quality <more>
performances. It doesn't have the look or feel of a blockbuster it wasn't one , but this is a classic example of an overlooked gem.
This is probably one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. What I liked best about this movie is the fact that it withstands the temptation to concentrate on the abduction but instead lays the focus on the reaction of the fellow citizens. Despite its main theme, you can learn a lot about the average human stupidity. I don't believe in aliens visiting earth, but if I ever should manage to stumble over one I'll better keep my mouth shut ; The flashback scenes are very scary, for that alone the movie deserves a higher ranking. I liked the acting, especially James Garner as <more>
the Marshall is top notch. The special effects during the flash back scenes may seem a bit outdated, but all in all this movie is something unique. Watch it with some friends when it's late and dark outside.
