One of Craven's best (by Cujo108) |
This film is underrated as hell. I personally consider it Craven's best film aside from The Hills Have Eyes. Of course, I've always been interested in the Amish culture, so this film taking it a step further with the Hittites was something I was intrigued by before I'd even first watched it. The film is thematically interesting in it's juxtaposition of a strict, patriarchal culture with individuals who hold more modern values. Fertile ground for Craven given his stern religious upbringing. while the movie adheres more closely to the slasher formula, the setting and the <more> |
It's a Bi+ch of a Blessing. (by ddfcmp8) |
You know what? I almost like this film more than "Last House On The Left", because of the fact that it carries itself in such a manner. I am almost sure that it has been tossed in the gutter in the past few years. it shouldn't be. You know what? If I were Sharon Stone, I'd be proud of this film, because it is not as bad as people say, or as bad as she thinks. I bet a LOT of people prefer it to that Basic Instinct sequel. I liked BI2, but c'mon, This film is better than that, everybody knows it. This movie is just fine. It has some pretty good sequences, and a nice cast <more> |
Spooky, haunting, vibe with excellent performances (by shmucking) |
Rural thriller about a young woman and her friends being stalked by an unknown presence and dealing with an intimidating cult-like group of religious fanatics. First of all, this movie has a genuinely spooky vibe that is maintained throughout the entire movie. It never lets up for a minute, and holds the audience in it's spell. The photography and music is very effective and atmospheric, and all the actors maintain the seriousness, never giving way to campy self-awareness. Ernest Borgnine has an intensity that comes off very well, and the other actors similarly aren't afraid to be <more> |
Delightfully bizarre horror! (by Nightman85) |
Early thriller from Wes Craven is a truly twisted tale of rural horror. When a farmer is mysteriously killed by his tractor, his wife and her visiting friends are terrorized by someone...or something.Deadly Blessing is a prime example of a horror film that's powered by eerie atmosphere. The story has many different kinds of horror elements feeding into it; psychological horror, slasher film, supernatural, religious horror. The rustic Texas filming locations are perfect to the foreboding nature of this movie. James Horner's weird chant-like music score is effectively creepy. <more> |
Decent, scary, but uneven Craven effort (by deadringer22000) |
Before his shoddy period in the mid 80's to '90's besides Serpent and the Rainbow Craven did some very decent work in the late 70's to early '80 and Deadly Blessing is one of them. Filled with beautiful scenery, awesome scary set pieces, and pretty good acting and pacing. The only weak points are the script and a ending that feels like a cop-out.After her husband is killed in a "accident", recently widowed Martha Marleen Jensen is visited by her college friends Vicky Susan Buckner and Lana Sharon Stone in her home surrounded by a ultra-conservative religious <more> |
An intriguing Wes Craven film! (by GOWBTW) |
Though I was too young for horror movies at that time, I always wanted to see that movie when I got older. In "Deadly Blessing", it was worth it for me. Here you have a very religious community known as the "Hitte". That community make the Amish look like swingers. A couple, Maren Jensen, "Battlestar Galactica" & Douglas Barr, "The Fall Guy" are about to start a family. But on one night, someone messes around the barn, and is killed by an unknown figure. Friends from college, Sharon Stone, her debut & Susan Buckner visits Martha Jensen for <more> |
a good mystery movie,thats scary (by sepultura5050) |
This movie is among one of the real horror films that was made back in the early 80's.and is scary, but at times can be confusing the plot that is.It's one of those movie's that you really need to watch and think about. Above all i loved it,wonderful and brilliant direction, and unusually story about a religious sect similar to Amish, but are more stricter which is chilling in itself. The ending is shocking and morbidly fascinating for a horror movie fan. you must watch this, some of Wes's best work. One of the best parts of the movie is that it's one of those one's <more> |
