Excellent, great family entertainment (by dave-710-679044) |
We got preview tickets to this film at Parrs Wood Didsbury this morning - my wife and daughter were very keen to see it because they love Ed Westwick in Gossip Girl. They thought it might have been too much of a chick flick for me but it is one of the best films I have seen for a long time, it has great story line, very well made, actors absolutely play their roles brilliantly. Its great to see a British film back on the screen. The make up of the film editing/production is very well cut and doesn't have the usual padded out parts in the middle where I normally get bored!! A great film <more> |
Magnificent from start to finish, v1.01 (by annevejb) |
Around November 2012 I was re-watching the Worst Witch series and sequels yet again and updating two of my review – comments and, surprise, surprise, the Blockbuster special low price second hand Blu-ray I purchased, Chalet Girl, it turns out that it is Felicity Jones, WW season 1 and Weirdsister, Ethel Hallow, in the lead. In a nice girl role, too, no grit in the screen persona.Somehow, Chalet turned out to be the sort of story that I could watch dreamily, all the way through, first viewing. Even the part when Felicity is 95% naked, she wears small hand puppets. Update, gloves and a hat.I <more> |
funny and lighthearted, My favorite movie (by aubreymarie-45600) |
One of my absolute favorite movies. I found it on accident and now it is my go to movie when I am bored and want something to watch. I recommend this movie to all of my friends and I think anyone looking for something to watch should see this movie. It has many funny and ironic moments making it a lighthearted romantic movie. I find myself constantly finding more and more things that make me laugh whenever I watch this. I have loved Ed Westwick ever since watching Gossip girl and he does an amazing job in this movie. Felicity Jones does a wonderful job as well to be sarcastic but not too over <more> |
I wanted to hate this (by nickmorgan02) |
I wanted to hate this, I really did. I'm on the sharp end of a divorce so going into a romantic comedy for me, well it's like a vegan booking an abattoir weekend.I was strong-armed into a preview show under the notion that it was Cinderella on a Snowboard and to a certain extent this is correct, Kim Felicity Jones is a downtrodden burger-queen-teen with zero prospects trapped in a co-dependent rut with her culinary incompetent dad Bill Bailey and nursing grief for her mother - who died in a car crash. In a series of unlikely twists Kim lands a job as a Chalet Girl with super-rich <more> |
Delightful (by neil-476) |
Kim, stuck in a mindless burger bar job, looks after her clueless Dad following Mum's death in a car crash. When money troubles press, Kim takes a job as a chalet girl working for a rich family, only to find that she is somewhat looked down on by the family themselves and the other upper crust husband hunting chalet girls. But rich son Jonny is rather tasty, and Kim turns out to be quite good at snowboarding...This romantic comedy has a lot going for it. There is no bad language for a start off albeit a little bit of mild raunch and non-explicit nudity , a lot of attractive scenery, a <more> |
Simply put...I loved it...had a great time!! (by Robert_duder) |
Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I'm a sucker for the 'teen chick flicks.' There was a time when I thought Amanda Bynes was an incredibly talented comedienne. I mention her because this film felt like an old school, fun times, Amanda Bynes comedy. In my books, that is a compliment. Chalet Girl is funny, cute, sweet, and even has some edge. It isn't your typical teen romance because the characters are early twenties or very late teens so its sort of a borderline adult comedy but still holds so much of the slapstick fun and romance of a great teen comedy. Add in some great <more> |
Predictable Yet Very Enjoyable Rom-Com (by moossaboossa) |
It's rare that when watching a chick flick, I find myself laughing out of genuine humour: but such was the case in Chalet Girl. Not only does it boast a pleasingly sarcastic dialogue and delightfully witty characters, but it offers just the right amount of romance and cheese to avoid 93 minutes of cringing. The story was very uplifting, albeit predictable, and the photography was worthy of a gasp or two. Set in the beautiful Austrian alps, this movie contained the perfect ingredients for a light and enjoyable flick: humour, romance, dramatic twist and happy ending. Perhaps it's not <more> |
Loved it! (by gracenozz) |
I went to see this movie a few months after it came out as part of a cheap cinema deal with friends. We went totally expecting a silly movie which we would all laugh at later but instead every single one of us loved it! Sure, the movie was a typical British Rom-com with cheesy scenes and Ed Westwick but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was witty - not obvious humour that I hate and the British actors really impressed me and showed their talents. However, I do agree that this movie may not be for men as it is typically as many of these films are, aimed at women. Overall, I really loved this movie <more> |
Awfully cliché and very feel good (by tom-hughes95) |
It shames me to admit it but this film, despite being utterly predictable and terribly cliché is, heartwarming, funny and very feel good. I enjoyed it more than I'm proud of. I only watched the film because of Bill Nighy is in it who although only having a small part to play, plays it very well obviously . The film is based around a snowboarding competition entered by Kim Felicity Jones having never snowboarded but previously being a skateboarding prodgy you'll understand after you watch the film . Despite this being the theme of the film, the backstory romance becomes more of <more> |
