Beverly Hills Ninja may not reach the same level as Tommy Boy, but what Chris Farley movie could possibly top that comic masterpiece. Beverly Hills Ninja is nevertheless a valiant attempt. It is filled with classic moments which will not be soon forgotten. Examples include Haru protecting Sensai's ninja "house" when he first meets Alison and nearly destroys singlehandedly the entire place and the superb dialogue such as, "You do not have Ninja intuition. In fact, you do not even have normal intuition." Who can forget such classic movie moments? But, probably the most <more>
enjoyable aspect of Chris Farley's movies is watching the response of others watching Chris Farley in action. Chris is one person you really love or you really hate. One of these extremes always prevails. And, for those of us who truly enjoy his work, nothing brings more joy than seeing the look of disgust and outrage on another person's face as they watch Chris Farley. Watching people toss and turn in their seats just hoping to get out of the theater as soon as possible really brings happiness to Chris Farley fans everywhere. It only highlights the high quality of his work and the lack of a sense of humor on others' part . Although we can always enjoy his movies in video, nothing will compare to the full theater experience. Beverly Hills Ninja takes this aspect of his work to a new level.A great movie and one definitely to watch multiple times .
Relax! Laugh your butt off!!! It's Chris Farley!!!!! Reading through other comments posted here, I notice that people are using five or six big paragraphs to review this. There's really not enough about this movie to be spending so much time reviewing it. Don't see this movie hoping for a great story or accurate ninja fighting action, or compelling drama like some of the commentors here seem dissapointed with. Take the stick out yer bum and relax. Just enjoy Chris Farley at his best. Few movies have ever made me laugh harder. I'm not an aged 8-14 male.
Gets Better Every Time I See It. (by MrBark)
Please forgive the length of this first paragraph, but it is needed to explain my opinion of this film. I never saw this film in the theater; it looked a little silly to me. One day a few months later it came on pay-per-view. Due to a technical glitch the cable company unscrambled the pay-per-view channels all day long. It also happened to be raining and generally miserable out, so my buddies and I decided to watch this movie. We had three pay-per-view channels, and one of the channels showed a single movie all day long. Guess which movie it was.The first time we watched it, we thought it was <more>
goofy, even stupid, and didn't really care for it. However like many teens, we mindlessly watched it again . . . and again . . . and again. We watched this film all day. "Why?" you ask; because it truly gets better every time you watch it.I think the reason is because this is a stupid film, and when you first watch it, you're too smart for it. Eventually though the IQ points seep out of your head, and you're able to fully enjoy this great movie. The bottom line: Watch this film at least 5 times, not necessarily back-to-back but it helps. It will grow on you. Even if you don't like Farley, watch this film for Chris Rock. Rock's performance is perfect, despite being too small of a role. Farley's performance is perfect as the bumbling but good-hearted "Great White Ninja." Even the chicken's performance is perfect. If you find the concept of a fat, white ninja involved in an Asian gang war mildly provocative, check your brain at the door and enjoy.
Silly, but funny. Fine for most kids. (by webprincess)
This is my son's favorite movie. Of course he is 10. My husband and I watch it and find it entertaining as well. It is silly and the physical comedy can be over the top, but that is classic Farley. We also like Tommy Boy, another Farley classic, and Dirty Works also with Farley, all though that flick is definitely not appropriate for children. Beverly Hills Ninja, however is appropriate for most children 10 and over. Pretty mild by today's standards. One of my favorite performances in this movie is the work of supporting actor Robin Shou. He is a great straight man and shows great <more>
martial arts skills as well as comedic timing. Chris Rock also has a small roll in this film.
Beverly Hills Ninja is a modern classic. Chris Farley stars as the great white ninja, who grows up to be quite the opposite. However, one night his fellow ninjas leave him all alone, and he is left to ponder on where it all went wrong. While engaged in deep thought, he is interrupted by a beautiful fair haired stranger. She is a woman with problems and she needs an agile, cunning, quick witted ninja to help her. Seizing the opportunity, Chris offers his services to her and thus, the adventure begins. This movie is standard Farley, humour which is buffoonish and anarchic - but that isn't a <more>
bad thing as far as I'm concerned. The best part of the film is when the aforementioned woman asks who the character who Chris plays is, and he wastes no time in telling her that he is the "Great White Ninja" that was foretold about in the ancient prophecies. Handily enough, the one copy of these precious words exist in scroll form, and are located nearby. Chris shows her the scroll, trying to unscroll it to the part where he is mentioned. The problem is, he is holding the ancient and valuable manuscript over a misplaced candle, and the priceless scroll is set alight. Farley reacts by throwing a bucket of water over it and ruining it forever! As if he wasn't in enough trouble already! Anyway, go and see the movie - You'll understand!
Beverly Hills NinjaStarring: Chris Farley, Nicolette Sheridan, Chris Rock and Robin ShouGenre: Action/ComedyRated: PG-13This is one of the most funniest Chris Farley movies ever! The movie is a where a child becomes the great white ninja but not really great because Haru Chris Farley keeps making one mistake after another! But when a beautiful stranger Nicolette Sheridan needs his help he goes to Beverly Hills and fight all the bad guys and doesn't know that his brother Gobei Robin Shou is helping him and Joey Chris Rock helps Haru out later in this movie. I thought the movie was <more>
funny because Chris Farley's phyiscal comedy is hilarious! I laughed til I cried! This was one of Chris Farley's last movies before his death in late 1997, I miss Chris Farley I wish he never died.
a funny movie deserves a better rating... (by Yggdrasil)
When I read the comments that have gone before me, it seems that hardly anybody likes this movie. Why?! Some people complain about holes in the plot or too much drama towards the end, but I frankly don't care about a perfect plot in a slapstick like this movie is. I must admit there's less laughter towards the end, but even then the funny situations are numerous.Of course, you can't argue about taste. In my personal opinion therefore, some scenes like the 'trashing the dojo' scene make this a classic that I'll certainly watch again.
Physical Farley (by Caleb_Everett)
"Are you communicating with me?" - Haru. As I watch this movie as an adult I recall how I felt as a child watching this movie on long road trips, and the laughs are still there. I know this movie is a pretty flimsy comedy, but Chris Farley plays a dense ninja so well. It's a fun movie with plenty of laughs and it does have some really corny moments, but it's alright I'll forgive it since Chris Farley has such great physical comedy.
Damn Farley had such karate moves! (by Irishchatter)
Some people say Chris Farley is better off with David Spade. However I think he is still funny as hell regardless! Man, he just got the moves of a true karate kid and champion!I know he was with Chris Rock, it just was so disappointing that he didn't have enough scene's. Both of them would have been great partners to kick the bad guys butts. I wouldn't call them ninjas, I would rather call them Hollywood legends cause really that's who they really are!Robin Shou was awesome. He had amazing stunts and was great in disguising himself as different people so Farley wouldn't <more>
know he's really helping him. I really wish I could do these karate moves if I was into doing them a lot lol. That's not gonna happen any time soon unfortunately!I don't know why Chris Farley wasn't proud in doing this film, it was brilliant thanks to him!
