This is my first review on IMDb because today I got motivated to write one. All because this movie deserves a higher grade, but got low ratings from people expecting to see Star Wars or Star Trek when they heard that this is a SCIENCE fiction movie. So before I start:1. This is not Star Trek where small midgets run around with sharp ears and shoot among themselves with green and blue laser guns. So in other words, this movie is SCIENCE fiction. Star Trek is CHILDREN's fiction. 2. Thus said, probably the poor reviews came from people who were expecting to see a Star Trek movie.3. <more>
Surprisingly great acting from a guy who came from a very shallow show like The Walking Dead. If you want to watch a bunch of pointless running around, explosions, hot chicks on bikes with laser guns killing zombies while standing on one foot and throwing fire through her ears, then don't watch this movie.4. But you liked Moon, Interstellar, Sunshine, etc you will enjoy this. This is a very intelligent, well thought SCIENCE fiction thriller movie, and we need more of these.
I'm not sure what is with other people, but I thought this movie was very good. Maybe they just can't enjoy something that is not a big blockbuster budget mega action movie.I enjoyed the entire movie. I thought the story, acting, set were all good and kept me watching and thinking the entire time. Never once did I think it was boring or wish that it would hurry up already. I thought both main characters were very good and I was never sure who I really wanted to root for. There were only a few places where I thought things wouldn't have gone the way they did them but maybe that is <more>
just me.Yes, I would definitely recommend this movie if you like to think and feel rather than just be entertained.
Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. (by sfseth)
The first 1/4 or so hit me as laborious, I found one character just simply annoying, but I stuck with it to the end and I'm glad I did. Prior reviewer's comparison to Moon seem spot-on, except this is a much smaller film. And I might add to that, conceptually similar to Moon, and then there's almost a bit of the video game Portal mixed into the backstory. As I got into it, it started to remind me a little Mamet-ish style, like Oleanna maybe, claustrophobic and in-your-face drama where the surroundings reveal themselves very slowly and with quite a bit of tension ie, I found <more>
myself constantly picturing the stories they're *not* telling you about how they got there . It's films like this and Moon, really with a cast of just 3, that remind me how large casts dilute, there's an intensity a good small cast brings. For anyone into a small film that's a challenging drama and a little time-dystopian sci- fi, I'd definitely recommend.
Found the sense of isolation, seclusion, possible hallucination ? and building paranoia immersive as I find them intriguing as themes to begin with; kept me glued. The sense of "unknowing" is vital in this one since leaves viewers with an unsettled feeling. Hence, I like that this gives only enough context without an all-out explanation as a prelude.Good story about characters thrown together into circumstances beyond their control and how they handle the unexpected.I found the pace just right, not too fast and not too slow either. Bottom line, I'd watch it again!
Solid overall movie (by coontage)
A bit of a spoiler- SO SPOILER ALERT After watching this movie, I was surprised at the emotional depth it created with only 3 constant actors. The relationship between Bauer and Cartwright had an interesting feel to it, as like all movies in the beginning everything is run of the mill feel good. But as you see court wright start to unravel, it really digs into the human psyche. While I personally would of liked a different beginning, showing some back story to Bauer, and the apocalypse, it still does enough for you to gain a feel for what kind of person Bauer is. I would of also enjoyed a <more>
little more with Bauer and Courtwright "bonding". As it sort of takes off fast, and leaves you wanting more for a build up. Without summarizing what happens during the movie, I really enjoyed the ending. To me it really did the character justice trying not to include names to not spoil anything. Last point, I really wish they showed the character dealing with the consequences of his actions towards the end, the sort of did that with almost like a quick recap. I really wish they would of invested a little more time in showing the emotions left after. Overall, a good movie. It keeps driving a long, while making you think. I'd suggest it as a good "date night movie." As long as you can enjoy a good story and dialogue piece, you should like this one.
I liked the film, as a performance piece from Reedus and Hounsou, and truly it's not more than that. It's a situational drama. The plot is, in fact, irrelevant. The ending scene that brings closure was already not needed. That being said, I feel like the script could have been a little more polished. The dialogue and the decisions of the characters sometimes felt a bit fractured, the movie lacks a natural fluidity. Certainly the film could have gained a point if the extra scenes - like the pointless and extra long beginning - would have been cut in favor of character development.Bottom <more>
line: it doesn't deserve such a low rating on IMDb. Cantamessa may not be the best director in the world, but for his first full length movie, he wasn't bad. I felt as if the film was inspired by Moon. It had the same feel, only with two protagonists. And as Moon, the movie could easily have been an episode of a sci-fi anthology. Moon was clearly better, though.
