If you are a Statham fan you would love all his dialogs and his moves but definitely this was not his best work. With the wake of the recent London riots with hoodlums ransacking it was good to see a tough guy iron fist cockney cop bringing all the goodness back to the world. Go Jason Statham, this movie did not have a brilliant screenplay to say the least but whatever it was nobody could have done it better than Jason Statham. This role was crafted for him. Also, if you got Sally Donovan from BBC Series Sherlock as Agent Falls just for her accent here then a thumbs up to you. That was <more>
awkward and I could get it right away. Not bad acting from the rest of the cast. Guy who played the Blitz did well. Good one liners and Statham in action are all the positives of this movie. As a pure Statham fan, I'd say 10 for his efforts, but 7 for the movie.
I love the unfazed attitude of Statham in this film.A tough cop who uses unconventional methods to bring perpetrators to justice. He also laughs in the face of his persecutors when he's busted for using excessive force to bring down felons.Great themes throughout; touching on the loss of loved ones, homosexuality in the police force, police brutality and co killers.
Another impressive Jason Statham actioner. (by Prashast_Singh)
I was pretty surprised with how the film quickly jumped to the scenes without wasting a second.Blitz is an impressively written, well directed, well acted action thriller that has all that you expect in a Jason Statham film. Action, tension and clever dialogues: it has them all.The story hardly has any major twists/turns and is indeed a pretty straightforward but captivating action film. Performances are impressive, dialogues are stunning, and the action is terrific. The editing too is impressive as the film doesn't drag and instead stays focused.Blitz is an impressive action film that can <more>
be watched for its sharp storytelling and solid action sequences. It's an entertainer, and it delivers.
Blitz is not getting much respect from reviewers on IMDb, and I'm very surprised by this. I loved it from the first minute to the last and ordered the Blu-Ray on line before the credits had even finished.Statham plays an aggressive cop with an attitude, and if he's got a weapon in his hands like a hockey stick he'll wield it like a pro.Paddy Considine plays a gay cop who's capable of taking the law into his own hands, and this allows him to work with Statham just beautifully.Aidan Gillen plays a fabulous psycho with a thing for killing cops, and he's been one of my <more>
favourite British actors for the past 10 years anyway, so it would have been hard for him to screw this one up.The action from the opening scene is great, Statham's lines are terrific stuff and had me laughing hard more than once, the odd-team Statham and Considine create is brilliant, the story doesn't get bogged down in personal problems, there are no annoying girlfriends, wives or kids to pull the actors and audience sideways away from the story some directors seem to love putting that type of stuff in , the continuity issues others have mentioned are so minor they don't matter, the soundtrack was perfect, and the ending was everything I hoped it would be.This film is never going to make the 'Greatest Films Ever Made' list, but its sure as hell fun to watch as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't beat around the bush getting started, doesn't waste time during the film, keeps up the fun, and what more do you want from Statham and an action film? To the film's detractors I say 'lighten up'! It's obvious from the first 10 minutes the film's creators weren't chasing Academy Awards, so why knock it so hard? It's meant to entertain for 90 minutes, and it does just that.
I remember reading the book in highschool http://www.amazon.com/Blitz- Ken-Bruen/dp/0312327269/ref sr_1_1?ie UTF8&qid 1312071329&sr 8-1 and I enjoyed it immensely. Although Brant was a completely different character in the book I like that they kept his traditional and old school manner. The spirit of the book is also kept in this, which is very surprising and pleasant in any movie that features Jason Statham. It's refreshing that it's not the kind of movie where he just punches everyone to death for two hours, it's deeper than that. I suggest you go see it, it's <more>
certainly an interesting story and hopefully it'll make you want to read the novel which is at a completely different level, the atmosphere is much deeper and everything, from the violence to the interactions are much more colourful.
Blitz-When Ultimate Revenge is Sweet, Not Bitter ***1/2 (by edwagreen)
It is very difficult at times to understand lead actor Jason Stratham is his role as a very tough British police officer. This is a very common occurrence in British films. The subjects speak as if they have hot potatoes in their mouths. This being said, the movie is a good thriller where a Barry Weiss takes revenge for the beating he received from our tough hero and goes on a killing spree of British police officers, shooting them in the worst possible way.It appears that the cops are unable to protect their own, especially when a police chief, returning to work following the death of his <more>
wife, falls victim to Weiss. The film also shows the weakness of the British legal system, quite similar to that of ours. When Weiss is finally apprehended, they must let him go. Yet our hero and his commanding officer take bitter revenge. It goes to show you that police rightfully have the last word. The British police lady, a drug addict, ripping off fellow pushers, is a sidebar to the main story.
One of Statham's best. Jason, as usual, plays himself, although this time in perhaps his most realistic settings. No wires, no kung-fu, no sixth sense. Just an unhealthy, alcoholic, total b**stard of a cop. This film starts out at best amoral, and I can only conclude by the end that it is positively immoral, with many things that are very objectionable. The few characters with hope or any redeeming qualities all get dragged down into the mire, and London has rarely looked so frightening and depressing and worryingly real. And yet the film is compelling viewing. It won't do well because <more>
the action is not the point, and what action there is and there is plenty all has a bitter taste rather than the usual cathartic "it's an action flick" joy. Equally, because it is Statham, and the action is so prevalent, it will probably be critically lambasted. But it is really quite a thoughtful film.
This film is the next action film in the line of Jason Statham's successful career. It is a no nonsense British cop action film with enough story line and plenty of in your face action to keep you interested and wondering what is next around the corner. Jason Statham has already reached world class status and now he is bringing it back for Britain. He is good at what he does and he does it in this film well - although I liked much of what he had done before, I didn't really care that he was in any particular film. My opinion has now changed as he reliably delivers action and character <more>
in bucket fulls which is good for an actor from the UK.The film does have a particular feel as it is British made but this fits the film well and enhances the gritty feel.If you want action, British made and varied, interesting characters then this is for you. If you want Hollywood, white teeth and unbelievable characters then see something else.
Very good action film, and look! no CGI was used or needed (by AlxP-64)
"Blitz" is a very good old-school crime film, built around the hunt for a cop-killer. The film could serve as teaching material of how to keep up the pace and the suspense for one and a half hours without using explosions, supermen or computer-generated imaging. Many of the scenes take place in the closed world of the policemen and policewomen who are the targets of the criminal and his hunters. Add a nice twist of the tough-cop-meets-new-partner trope, throw in a pinch of comedic one-liners, and top it off with a very beautiful Zawe Ashton as WPC Elizabeth Falls. Jason Statham is <more>
the tough cop and sort of protagonist , Paddy Considine provides the contrast as the new partner and boss! , and the Blitz is the killer.Nothing is larger than life, nothing is forced, nothing blows up unexpectedly; some subplots remain mostly unsolved, and that's just like in life -- different stories move at their own pace, some end earlier, some later. Highly recommended, unless you are put off by blood, guns, blunt objects, knives and such. But then, you wouldn't want to watch a crime film, anyway.
